I think we've gone from dead cert Trump win to too close to call. Think it may actually depend on the campaigns; I'd favour Kamala due mostly to reasons of sanity.

Not gonna look into that.

Reverse mockers don't work in politics. Believe me, I've tried.

How did it happen? Who pulled the strings? The Dems are supposed to be crap at unity. The NYT has an arselickey piece about Kamala brilliantly pulling it off by just phoning everyone. But there must be more to it than that
"Hi x, just to let you know Joe is quitting so I'll obvs be putting my hat in the ring. So that means I get the existing war chest, but just to be on the safe side I've added another 50mil and counting to the pot. It'd be great to present a united front rather than proving the Trump campaign with clips of us slagging each other off. So can I rely on your support? As I said I've already got all the existing funding so that's not something you'll have to worry about, and (oh wait so it's 70 now?), and an extra $70m of donor support. What do you say?"
Ngl if I can come up with a compelling case during my morning shit, I'm pretty sure a long time professional politician can do at least as well.
There is no more to it than that.

It's basically the head start you get when you can make the first move.
It seems such an obvious and commonly occurring advantage, that it's a wonder no one has come up with a neat little phrase to encapsulate it.

Same.
They've gone from no-hope to hope.
It's still Trumps to loose.
Huge swathes of population still thinks the economy is doing badly and lays that at Biden's door. There is a bit of a partisan tint to that view but it's not only held by the MAGA lot. Culture war is still a factor too - see chatter months ago about the focus on 2nd gen Latinos and black males.

Didn't realise Kennedy was polling that high... Who does he really take voters from?
-
• #18264
Protest voters, deep state conspiracy theorists who are too looney even for MAGA.
-
• #18265
His policies are all over the place so people seem to pick whatever the things they like from him and ignore the rest. So you've got the anti vax conspiracy nut side but also he's said he's for single payer healthcare, slashing military budget, reduce interest on student loans.
Plus he's positioned himself as a non partisan new politics figure.

Worth remembering that bookies will shorten the odds on heavily backed outcomes. Had to have been a ton of money on trump post assassination attempt.
Trump still ahead by an orange nose though
