  • I don't think the chaps done it like that to be a knob (there'll be tolerances and hidden practical reasons), but over that they should easily be able to explain these, I just hope the immediate inconveniences become the 'where on earth would we put it without that being like that' thing

  • If you wanted more depth than the recesses offered this seems a good solution.
    Just having the shelves protruding would have been strange I think, and joining the boards in the middle way harder/more expensive.
    As you asked about styling, don't think it really works with the half painted walls, sorry. White walls, red (or other colour) shelves could look quite awesome and modern.
    Or keep the walls, and paint shelves red too, maybe.

  • My guess would be that if the shelves had been fitted with supports flush to the walls, they would have needed additional support across the front which would have reduced the height available, compared to how they are now
