That was me. That’s a real shame as it’s stunning up there.

Turns out Col du Sabot is an absolute banger. Started from Vaujany as we were staying there, saw 0 cars and maybe 20 cyclists

Planning a trip to the Alps 21st September to 6th October with my partner, she's not a cyclist so will have to intersperse rides with hikes that we can do together. We'll be driving and tentatively I have 6 nights in Briançon, 6 nights somewhere else (indifferent on order of these), and final 3 nights in Annecy because it looks really pretty. Bonus if I could ride between locations as may be able to convince my partner to drive with our stuff and chill whilst I gurn my way over.
I've never been to that side of France so really have no idea and open to suggestions/advice. In terms of riding I'd like to take in some of the big name climbs but also happy to favour less celebrated climbs if the consensus is that they're nicer and have less traffic; I seem to recall someone saying that Alp D'Huez is basically the A21 with hairpins...
Any insight/advice much appreciated :)

sense of isolation you get up there is worth it. There is a cafe
flat white?

What a place. Endorsed.
Mate broke one of the hire cars so we have been a bit stuck to what we can ride to…but that’s been fine.
Done the balcony roads across to Huez and then the climb up the opposite side of the valley to Villard Notre Dame and Villard Reymond.
Then next day did croix de fer and back. Today did Alpe d’Huez. Might not be able to make it to Galibier tomorrow due to car issue so might end up doing Ornon and Morte or maybe Col du Sabot as our villa is half way up Sabot already, and reviews look great.
Whoever recommended La Berade, apparently the road is totally washed out and impassable and won’t be fixed for a while.
