Interesting mix of bean colours here. Mix of medium to quite dark roast.
Just dialled it in ready for tomorrow morning and I have to say my first impression is it’s quite a competent tasting espresso. Lots of mouth feel with a dry, fruity finish and a bit of smokiness. Quite dry grounds, but it hasn’t needed to be ground excessively fine. Be interesting to see what it’s like in a milk drink tomorrow.

Does this look too fine for espresso? Playing with grind sizes, and this was really really difficult to press through the Robot.

Bit late to this but are you pushing the screen down firmly? You need to get four fingers on it and press hard, I then quarter turn and repeat. Also don’t use a fancy expensive swan neck, if you must then heat a teaspoon in hot water and pour off the back of that to diffuse the flow until you can afford a cheap basic kettle.

How deep? I tend to dose at 14.5g and a little coarser than that. If I was down to 12 that is about where I grind, but that was less consistent for me.

That was about 19grams or so.

So about five minutes to pull a shot?
-
• #27083
At that fineness, five minutes to get the arms moving, fifteen to pull the shot 😂
Think I'm done experimenting with fineness and going a bit coarser. Like about 18 or 19 grams in the robot taste wise.
Edit - if anyone's interested, turns out its because where I was testing on finer grinds, lots of little 'fines' collect and then clog the holes in the basket. Cleaning out the grinder had removed them, and now all is well in the world.

Am I being a coffee snob for feeling irked that the kg of beans I just received was roasted back in March?
-
• #27085
Depends on the seller, but no I think that's a reasonable concern

If you've bought direct from the roaster then it's a bit shit but if you've bought from a shop that just stocks a load of beans from all over then not really.

Did any one get hit with additional costs when ordering via df64.com, about to finally pull the trigger on the v2.

Based on my experience, you'll likely have it by tomorrow! Can't recommend enough. Also remember: DOASKID

If it’s a speciality roaster I would probably mention it to them.

Is that a discount code?
I'm really enjoying the Espresso blend, very nice.
The decaff El Eden though, tastes like a Starbucks coffee to me, I don't know how else to articulate the flavour. Almost smokey? There is probably a proper word for it. Dunno. Anyway wont be ordering that again as I don't particularly like that flavour.

Dark Arts Guji Flip Flops is an absolute winner for both espresso and filter. Would recommend.

This was last month's Hardlines subscription and it's fucking brilliant. Good hit of fruit and sweetness. Coming out of the SPB perfectly.

I didn’t either, had to wait for my DF54 as I pre-ordered it but once it shipped it came pretty quickly and without custom charges
You’ll be needing to roast some peas to cut it for that real Cuban taste. 🇨🇺 ☕️
