  • If he is, it's another data point for my 'fast starts bad'

  • Victor Bosoni (232), the 22-year-old wild card who has been riding within the top 20 at the front of the Race, is turning around to correct an unfortunate error. Victor had the unpleasant realisation today that he had left his passport and wallet 270KM behind him at a petrol station. A situation that would see some throwing in the towel, Victor has begun a tedious though strong-willed journey backwards to retrieve his essential belongings. Having already climbed over the Grossglockner, it looks as though he may be headed for Brenner Pass, which he will of course then have to come back over again once he has collected his things. Despite a near 550KM detour, the passionate Green Leaderboard rider is still aiming for the Finisher’s Party in Istanbul — a commendable show of determination from the young ultra cyclist.

  • From TCR insta. “forgot passport and wallet, going back to collect”

  • Oof that sucks for him but it's not just physical fatigue that gets you in trouble if you're riding frantic from the start.

  • Robin though, getting a good gap. Can he hold it? Still pretty early days.

  • Noooooooooooooo

Fuck that sucks so hard, poor guy

  • What happened to Alex Kopp? He was riding hard too.

  • Victor was riding hard but also stopped 7 hours first night and 8 hours second night, so looked like he was doing ok. He "won" NC4K last year so has a bit of experience.

  • It would probably be quicker to hire a courier to pick up the stuff from the service station and bring it somewhere.

  • Let's be clear, there's no "win". There's following the rules of the event or not and only riders that adhere to the rules can win.

  • Wonder what his year was like. I've only had knee overuse injuries like this when I did Transpyrenees a few weeks before TCR.

  • Go Victor go.

  • Slack packing overheard at golf club style.

  • Yep that one and I think Sherry Cardonas was my fave. This one was good

  • proper k.i.s.s.

  • Pfff that sucks, imagine having to cycle all this extra distance because of some mistake ...

  • Josh also out

24-07-24 #18 Josh Ibbett Rider scratched 9:37 CEST via email due to knee pain.

  • Jana first female is on an impressive pace, I recognise her from her Three Peaks documentary. Also first pair Sherry & Gereon are repeating their good riding from last year.

  • Victor will probably never forget his passport again.

  • Oh man. I'd have tried to find another solution. If you organised someone to go get your passport/send it somewhere this should be within the rules, no?

  • This. But maybe too expensive?

  • In practice it's not that easy to do, but possible.

To get something sent on to you by a commercial service you need to have an address where you will be on a particular date, so a hotel, which can be anywhere in schengen, before you hit the Balkans. And you might have to sit around there waiting for it.

And you need to have someone who is happy to package up your item and make it available for pickup.

The latter is probably harder than the former, some guy in a petrol station might not be arsed to do that and might not know where he'll be on xxx day.

In practice, it's easier mentally to just go and get it yourself, rather than trying to organise all that and rely on other people doing stuff. The courier is a commercial service but the guy packaging your stuff up is a personal favour.

And either way your race is fucked as you've lost loads of time organising it. Basically might as well ride back for it and remember to take more care next year. As well as reading the rules. Basically he has done two events and fucked them both up through careless but catastrophic errors that virtually everyone else manages to avoid. It doesn't matter how fast he rides if he can't do the basics.

  • Great, she can see all her stuff, and it should be the right size for her frame as it's kind of bespoke, but how the fuck does she open that?
