Fucking unifi.

I had to factory reset my Dream Machine as it was fucked. I have to do an offline setup as I need to clone the MAC address from my IP's router.

If you do an offline setup it doesn't let you associate it with your unifi account.

It then won't let you restore your backup because that is associated with a different account.

If you go down the settings to try and Transfer Ownership that option isn't there.

When it works it is very good but when it doesn't it is an absolute pile of shit.

I’m having “teenager at home on the phone” coupled with “added HomePods to people’s rooms to make things nice”
Our ability to wfh is being tested and it will get worse over summer.

Bumping the bandwidth up is an option but ee have offered three discs at £10 a month to get a mesh network
Are the tp links better value ? (I think they might be?)

Depends what's limiting things at the moment. Increasing your connection speed or improving the wifi won't do owt to help if the other is the issue.

Buffering and poor connection when doing teams/zoom and they’re home.

I use a cable to connect so maybe it’s bandwidth. But there’s poor signal upstairs

Having a wired connection is very helpful for ruling out wifi issues at least.

150Mb down should be plenty for what you've described. What's your upload speed, and is the teen doing anything which might impact that?

2 adults wfh (1 wired, 1 WiFi, 2 phones probably connected)

Your router might have an option for connection priority which could be a useful stop gap solution, you can set it on a device basis (maybe your teenager know this and that's why your work connection has suffered 😂)

Not to continue to shill TP Link but the Deco app has 5yo-simple UI with the sort of basic functionality your average family needs.

Eg. Here is my OH's work laptop that I've renamed to something simple for me to identify. Our work laptops are prioritsed.

There are easy time restrictions but I need to be connected to the WiFi to show them (I'm in the office). But you can quickly block a device without being connected.

No you need to buy a TP-Link Deco X50-Outdoor.

just trying to get the EE app reset on my phone and see what happens there. no prioritization when looing at router in browser.

I had slower broadband than that and we were both doing calls and streaming shit all day with no issues.

How far are you from the router? Does your work machine use a VPN? Do you both have slow down issues at the same time or just one of you all the time? If you can wire in you eliminate wifi aspect at least.

I'm connected and I'm fine. The last 2 weeks has been rough on those using wifi apparently (NOT ME, I only care about the wifi being used to generate income in our house, wifi for your tikchats and your snaptoks can >>>>>>>).

I decided on a wired connection to the main TV and my work laptop. Thankfully even though we have painfully slow 24mb internet and the basic Vodafone router I can survive with a wife and two children using multiple TVs, phones and Nintendo switches without issue.

Wire up your missus and tell the kid to fuck off to the library or other free wifi locations.

Crossover with the show me your shed thread but how do I extend the Wi-Fi to my shed/summerhouse?

It's 40 metres away from the house so too far away to receive wireless. I do have electricity down there via an armoured cable and fuse box professionally installed.

It shouldn't be too hard to run an outdoor cable down a fence. Ideally you drill a hole though a sensible wall and run the cable into the back of an ethernet socket.

We use TP Link mesh in our flat because it's a long way from the router in the front room, to the back of the house. We have it set up so it forms a chain from front to back of house.

No complaints.

Where you have a series of access points / WiFi repeaters that give better reception over a wider area.

Yep - I just ran a really long cable. I have a mesh network in the house but much simpler and cheaper to go for wired outside
