  • Not suggesting the OP should do it but just commenting that i ran a very similar combo and was fine for several years including plenty of off road stuff. I used the lower spec CAAD12 alloy steerer model but tried it briefly with the exact same fork as above and it worked the same. I've gone back to the OG 1.5 fork (as should the OP!) and neither bearing or cup have suffered.

  • Thanks for debunking the idea... This experiment with the chopped fork might convince me to take the leap slamming the stem on the original. If a reducer cup is more expensive then what it's worth, I might just find a cheap replacement fork to chop instead of the original one. Thanks again for your insights.
