  • Sorry!

By far the hardest climbing in the whole thing was cornwall and devon - I'm sure you know, but most of the valleys run north/south and you're riding West/East, so it's endless short sharp climbs. this would be hellish fixed, and afaik the only real way of avoiding this is the A30 which would be absolutely joyless. So, on the basis that you'll be doing the hardest bit fixed anyway, I wouldn't worry about the rest, you can route for gradual gradients and still enjoy the scenic beauty!

  • New page tho !

  • Thinking of trying this next week onwards. I've only done one 2.5 day bike packing trip previously and haven't done any distance recently. No idea how much to try and cover each day.

Where were people's "unmissable" roads? There are so many options I have no idea where to start. Thinking of going via Trowbridge, Stockport and Glencoe to see family/friends, will I be missing anything in Bath/south of Inverness?

    Crossed fingers for the weather...

  • Haven’t done Lejog but I think the loveliest roads in Scotland are up the west coast. Especially the peninsulas - morvern, ardnamurchan and applecross.

  • Glencoe was a highlight for me when I did it, with some lovely riding through the trossachs and around there. Having also ridden the West Coast it is incredible, but much harder to fit into a reasonable LEJOG. I did the great glen then the 'normal' (I think) route from Inverness and loved it all. In the south, gospel pass and the black mountains generally was a surprising highlight (only because I wasn't really expecting it to be so great) and I loved Exmoor - the levels - Cheddar gorge - Mendips etc too. Although, having just googled where Trowbridge is you may miss much of this out. I'm sure there are still really lovely roads you'd hit going that way.....

  • Super helpful thanks. I can probably get my mate in Trowbridge to pick me up and drop me off again the next day if I'll be missing all the good bits so I'll have a Google around

  • are headwinds going to be an issue if I do Lejog north to south?

  • It's not possible to do LEJOG north to south. You want to try JOGLE. :)

Apart from this stupid comment, I don't know the answer to your question, sorry.

  • I think one record was set north to south, all the others went south to north.

But, you're touring. Wind directions changes. I'd do the logistically easiest option and deal with whatever weather.
