  • Ooof. Do like. What's the frame?

  • My gravel bounce was intercepted by HMRC. It'll arrive Tuesday now and I've had to pay a little extra. Still cheap at less than half the price - and compatible to current eBay selling pricing for second hand.

    ^^ and this looks wicked.

  • Seeing as we're back to page 1 stuff, half price lefty forks at merlin..
    https://www.merlincycles.com/cannondale-lefty-oliver-gravel-fork-700c-302834.html?source=PHG

Pint for the first person to stick one on their Arkose.

  • Heh. I was tempted by these and the lolz of putting them on a Crux but by the time I'd factored a wheel (re)build in, it became cost prohibitive.

  • My franken mountain gravel monster cross dale is still doing it for me. Now with wiggle's closing down bargain 650b carbon wheels it's a touch racier than last year.

Morning raid down the Cornish coast path could have been worse.

  • Serious question time. I'm looking for a replacement gravel wheelset (okay maybe I should've have sold the DT R470!) that I can gravel with. Not too expensive. I'm thinking of something like:

    • Hope 20Five with Pro5
    • DT Swiss GR series wheels or similar
    • Fulcrum Rapid Red (dunno which ones yet)

Hope and DT are a bit out of budget, Fulcrums are cheap but XDR freehub needed (another ~70 quid).

Currently, I'm using those super lightweight racing alu wheels from Hunt with gravel tyres (think they're called Aerodynamicist 34mm or something). Defo not an ideal choice. I might even get rid of those if anyone's interested in a trade/swap.

Edit: Not the biggest fan of Hunt having owned them now. Scribe aren't too bad.

  • I’ve realised I ride gravel way more than I ride mtb trails so I’m quite tempted to replace my under utilised hardtail with more of a flat bar grav bike. So far I’m liking the look the Spa Rove as it ticks a lot of (pretty much all) the boxes on my list of requirements which is as follows (in order of importance),

    Steel.
Ability to be run geared or ss so sliding, rocker or otherwise adjustable dropouts or ebb.
    Clearance for 29 x 2.2-2.4” tyres.
Tyre clearance created with use of a yoke rather than heavily crimped stays.
    Can take my 15 x 110/12 x 148mm wheels.
    Dropper compatible seattube.
    All the mounts.

My current choices for gravelable bikes are a fixed/ss bike that takes max 40mm tyres or my pumped up Raleigh Twenty which is actually surprisingly good on gravel at least until it gets lumpy at which point the wheel size becomes a problem.

Thought I’d ask in here (and in the mtb thread) to see if anyone could suggest any alternatives that I might not have looked at yet.

Should also say, I’m open to buying a geared frame and changing the dropouts to sliders but this counts out the likes of Genesis as they tend to use large plate style dropouts and I’d also want a frame I was going to chop up to be used or at least cheap.

  • Kona Unit ticks those boxes, but it's a bit of a lump.
