  • I think there’s an 850? Or was 20 years ago.

    Edit
    750
    850 is a tractor

  • Yeah, I looked it up earlier. The F-750 is crazy, it's a fucking lorry!?!

  • Tbf they are commercial vehicles. One thing I found refreshing when we went on holiday to Florida was seeing loads of F-250s being used as God intended as opposed to NYC.

It's just a bit ridiculous that people are using them for domestic transport. Why not rock a DAF on the school run.

  • Tbf they are commercial vehicles

    Aren't they actually lifestyle vehicles?

Commercial requirement for a pickup that size isn't obvious

  • 650/750 etc and so on, big redneck hip hop vibes

  • Not into cars but enjoying looking around an auction that happens a couple of times a year in my home town. This Land Cruiser from '81 was pretty minty

  • I commuted in hgv tractor unit... For while as it was the only non broken legal vehicle I owned.

  • Ah that's good, faith in influencers humanity restored!

He's probably getting the Jazz sorted before selling the Micra, seems reasonable.

  • Pretty much my dream car. 🤩

  • I have ended up looking at SUV’s because they’re cheaper than vans these days.

  • Pretty ain't it? Is this Joe btw?

  • Bit of a long post sorry, I’m after any advice or suggestions on what to do to solve this. I have a 2002 VW T4 2.5tdi auto, converted from a multi van to a camper. It’s super good condition in terms of rust (none) and low mileage at 60k , and has good spec for old vehicle with air con, electric windows and cruise control. The

problem is the gearbox, apparently a known weakness in this vehicle. A few weeks ago while driving it lost all power on motorway, and I got recovery home. It seems that It split a hose to an oil cooler radiator. I replaced the hose and re-filled the gearbox with atf as per manual. After this it goes forward (a few meters on the driveway) but not reverse, (it seems to want to pull forward whil in reverse). I am at or beyond my skill, knowledge and ability with it now, thinking that it could be something I did wrong with the level, or the gearbox completely knackered after loosing oil. I can’t get anyone professional to look at it, even the recommended local auto specialist local to me says he won’t touch it as you can’t get oem parts and wont use “cheap Chinese parts”. I’ve tried a bit on a couple of VW forums but no success.

My prefernce would be to get it repaired, but if not possible as I can’t find anyone, I guess I need to try and sell it as a non runner for much less money. Would anyone happen to know anyone who might be prepared to tackle this? I’m in Essex / Suffolk area if that makes any difference -

  • Could you get a replacement gearbox?

  • I swear I said you should have got a RRS years ago.

Looking forward to being proved right in the coming years.

  • I’ve tried a bit on a couple of VW forums but no success.

No idea, but would Facebook groups be a better bet? Annexdotaly it sounds like they are often better than forums for specific interests these days.

  • My Dad had one of those. L reg. He got it new. It was his first company car. Your one is such an eccentric project.

  • The gearbox ran out of oil, at the bare minimum the gearbox bearings are fucked as well as the drjve belts etc.

Try and find a garage that can remove the box and then get it reconditioned. Well open it up and see how much damage has been done.

Can go down the 2nd hand gearbox route, but then it is a bit of a gamble.

  • Saw the flat bed equivalent this morning!

  • I had a chat with the owner, bogan boomer, voice like sandpaper, mullet and a rat tail.

Another species. Florida or somewhere? The funny thing is that he won't have trouble parking it. Every shop and takeaway he goes to has spaces. 2bn of them. In some cities over 30% of the land is parking spaces. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/20/business/parking-minimums-cars-transportation-urban-planning/index.html#:~:text=Approximately%202%20billion%20parking%20spots,than%20the%20buildings%20they%20surround.

  • This is true. The 2nd hand van market is mental. Had a look post Cornwall trip a few weeks back , as you do, and 10 YO vans are sub £10k off new vans. A very odd market.

How about combining utility + van?

  • Not local to you but Paul Van Works @ Medway MOT Centre will probably be able to advise. He looked after our T25 when we had it, and I saw a few T4s being worked on too.

We discussed gearboxes at one point and I do seem to remember he had a guy he would get work done with, so he could point you in their direction?

  • @yeahdext Macan drives least like an SUV out of that class so you would still enjoy the drive. I'm not endorsing it as I think there's an manner of fast saloons you can buy instead, but you'll definitely enjoy a Macan.

  • @allshookup this sounds like a great tip but if you don't get anywhere there, then Martin Hind at Dartford Transmissions is very highly rated with auto boxes.

  • Got to love a Shark nose 6 series :)
