  • My commiserations... You seeing a GP?

  • I'm not. I don't even know what's triggering them...

  • I am still traumatised by the last urologist' visit in which I was unexpectedly inserted by a lubed probe for prostate inflammation.

I get that the majority of male patients don't respond well to "please relax your spincter because I am going to feel up your prostate" but still.

So yeah, the echo will be probably be more pleasant.

  • You seeing a GP?

    Well then get on it!

  • It's because you did your collar bone in again? Seem to remember reading something in the clavicle error threas

  • Yeh if you weren't expecting it then, as the meme goes, "that escalated quickly". I've had the prostate probe, camera into the bladder (you never want this, ever) and ultrasound on the ol' stones. The latter is a piece of piss, you'll be fine.

  • Et finger into the bladder is a right of passage ! I recommend talking about it but not over lunch ! I can still feel it years later

  • I had this on one side. I think it was this. Had to had surgery in the end, couldn't cycle for months. NHS were fucking useless.

  • Yeah, but I've not been this pained before by a collarbone.

  • Bleak forecast. I am in Germany though, health service isn't too bad when you put effort in.
I understand if just an infection this should work. It could be something else, hence the check with ultrasound.

  • Metronidazole and its ilk will cause a disulfiram-alcohol reaction. All other antibiotics are basically fine.

That being said Doxycycline is a pretty grim antibiotic regardless and can cause a nasty oesophagitis @Rodolfo if you develop new heartburn or difficulty swallowing then go back to your doctor.

  • Sorry. Hopefully antibiotics sort for you. I remember having a few rounds before they finally took it seriously.

  • Jebus another side effect to keep an eye on?! Thanks for the heads-up!

I am already advised to stay out of the sun for risk of my skin peeling off. There goes my sweet summer tan (we got quite a bit of sun ere in Berlin).

  • How did they do that? Up the urethra?!
I do remember getting an std test many moons ago where a sizable q tip was yanked into my penis and then twisted for good measure to get a good sample. The insertion was forewarned, the twist was not. Burned while peeing for a good while afterwards.

  • I climbed up the walls giggling out of surprise. Doctor said that was a good sign, if it had been in pain, which was the other possibility, I'ld be in trouble.

camera into the bladder (you never want this, ever)

No that sounds horrible! My q tip story pales in comparison!

Anybody else some nice medical horror stories preferably involving private parts to lighten up my mood in shared misery?

  • When I had my vasectomy, the room's aircon was broken, and I spend 10 minutes smoking my vapourised vas deferens.

I've also had the pleasure of a cystoscopy and the subsequent sensation of pissing burning glass shards for the next two days.

  • Ironically, my vas deferens is what I am trying to save! No progeny yet is a factor indeed.

I reckon for some deviants that is considered a pleasure indeed. Brings back early internet memories of liveleak videos of guys hacking away at their genitals. Cannot unsee.

@IrPOWERranger thanks again for the heads-up. Maybe it tipped the mental barrier of maximum amount of manageable side effects but felt a sudden heartburn and trouble swallowing last evening and this morning and got myself some medicine for that from the GP this morning.

Now feeling much better already, less cloudy in the head, balls only a pound each and eating well. Hopefully the ultrasound will be the thrilling sensation as I am promised.

  • I remember the surgeon showing me this wurly camera and saying look its got a light on the end you may feel a slight discomfort ! Like swallowing a whole apple ! We pass it now your penis into your bladder and see the residue drink from 160 miles you rode on sunday ! Is that maxim and lemon juice ?

  • There really needs to be a content warning before opening this thread.

  • Can any medics advise on the following. 8 year old burned his arm on a hob on Wednesday evening, and a small blister came up. He was treated in a&e, with the burn cleaned and a burn dressing applied. We visited a&e outpatients this morning for follow up, and the burn was cleaned, with top layer of skin coming off, and a new dressing applied. No signs of infection, and a further appointment set for Monday.

My question (that I forgot to ask at the appointment) is what is the likely healing time? He has a swimming course booked in the holidays that starts a week on Monday (11 days away) and we don't know whether to cancel or rearrange. We are going on holiday in 17 days, by which time I hope it will be definitely healed. Any advice?

  • My knowledge is open wounds are not to get wet (except to clean with clean water). The healing time will depend on the immune health of the patient.

Call NHS phone line and ask.

  • Call NHS phone line and ask

    Lol

  • See if you can get hold of some biafine, absolutely magic for burns. In the UK I think Amazon was the quickest option.

  • You oversold the sensation!

Good news for all expressing interest in my reproductive organs, i.e. me:
    Ultrasound was good.
    Feeling is good
I only need to do two weeks of the antibiotic instead of three

With the last I am almost the most grateful because I was almost necking it due to the related stomach issues this morning in front of the doctor's office. I think an empty stomach saved me some public embarrassment.

  • Just stick those large waterproof plasters on it if not yet healed.
Alternatively if there's still dressing on, there are these plastic arm bags for people with casts that could be of use?
