• Ellis Briggs Favori 1970s racing bike - Eroica

Built in 1977 by Ellis Briggs of Shipley. The frame and forks are Reynolds 531 - the lugs and BB shell have playing card cutouts. Gears are 1st gen Dura Ace (which used the Crane derailleur) with a 5 speed close ratio block, Galli brakes, and a Stronglight chainset. The seatpost is a Laprade Brevete with an Isca Competition saddle. Cinelli bars and stem, Edco competition headset. Hubs are Campag Record high flange.

The above parts are all original. New parts are Mavic MA2 rims and Conti GP5000 25mm tyres (to replace the original tubs), bar tape, and a KMC chain. I bought it from Ellis Briggs, who rebuilt the wheels and fitted the new parts. I sourced the Look PS 75 pedals myself - they're slightly later (early 80s) and work with Look Delta cleats - although they are not Eroica compliant.

    The measurements are:
    Top tube 22"
    Seat tube (c-c) 22"
    Head Tube 6"
    Stem 10cm
    Bars 40cm

It's in beautiful condition, and has probably never been out in the rain.

  • Too big for me…that ain’t basic 531 d/b but looks like 531SL (special lightweight)…which had to be silver brazed.

Change the pedals for Campag with toe clips.

    6 or 7 speed? Headset?

Classic bike and EB make exceedingly good frames.

  • I wonder if this fits the bill for the chap from the States who's been after one for a decade (there's the extent of my search. edit; nope it's not a track,)

  • Top steed, quite a few about when I raced back in the 70's.

Black first gen brake levers are rare. Other kit is nice too :). Too small for me but let me know if you end up splitting

  • Thanks all for the interest and informative comments! I've added some more info to the OP.

It's a bit too small for me unfortunately otherwise I'd be keeping and putting an Eroica entry in.
