I've spent the last 15+ years playing in heavy bands in various crusty, largely un-miced venues so I've bought snares based on "what's loud and cuts through the rest of the band if I tune it really tight".
I'm now playing in a much gentler (soft as fuck indie/emo stuff) band that requires some form of nuance and the massive steel snare I use for my heavier bands sounds really out of place. How do I figure out what sort of snare sound I want after so long being a caveman?
