  • Unfortunately I was assaulted while on the bike for tapping on a bonnet of a close passing car. Saddle is dead, everything else is fine.

Done more work on the bike as work gave me a few days off to rest. The front brake somewhat works but will give it a full strip with new seals later.

New parts since last pictures are hope 22 pedals, Berthoud saddle, ritchey 60mm stem with ritchey kyote bars, all silver.

I'm having to return the berthoud mudguards as they are long but drilled as short so all the length is in the tail and pretty much touch the floor. SJS said that's how they're supposed to be and it wasn't until I sent them a picture of my Roberts with the same guards they agreed.

Has anyone fitted 27.5 pdw to 26 wheels? Guess the mudguard line would be all off?

  • Ah so sorry you've been assaulted like that, that's horrendous! Kill cars, etc etc.

Re: mudguards, I remember reading somewhere, can't remember where - probably Jan Heine? - (EDIT: It's on the Velo Orange website for re-radiusing mudguards) that with metal guards you can tease out a new radius, say for 26" to 27.5" or vice versa, by going from one end to another and squeezing and forming them to be narrower or wider. If you widen the guards, as you go along the overall wheel radius will decrease whereas if you squeeze them to be narrower the overall wheel radius will increase.

To answer your question, you probably could convert metal guards from 27.5 to 26", but they might be a tad wider (so consider frame fit) along with being a smaller wheel radius.

    Hope you rest well!
