Just started watching. What's up with all the fragmentation?
-
• #50685
Wind initially, everyone wanting to get in the break, and super fast racing. Average speed c. 48km/h I think they said

Third week, not a GC day or a sprint stage so anarchy reigns.

• #50687
Huh, apparently Mas has been riding the tdf.

• #50689
A good stage, the race for 2nd is very much on!

So KOTM, when it just reflects GC podium is it time to bin it off in favour of something else?
-
• #50691
Could really do with Carapaz winning another twenty mountains points to cash in on my optimistic betting spree.

• #50692
Get Strava to sponsor it, the winner is the person with the most KoMs on the designated climbs at the end of the race.

This, but all segments that exist before the start of that stage.
Orange Polka Dots too, yeah?

Well, that was the best stage by a country mile and a half. It was like five stages in one. Not great for Vingegaard who I think could easily lose 2nd place by the end. I cannot understand how commentators took seriously the idea that Visma would 'take it' to Pogacar. It's like you or I 'taking it' to a horse in a pissing contest. Good to hear that Rob Hatch has stopped saying Jao-wow-wow Almeida though.

Visma took it to Pogacar the previous years where Vingegaard won.
Just that Pogacar is even better, and has a better team, as well as not showing any signs of cracking yet.
-
• #50697
One of the 3 is going to crack but who? Thats what makes it so gripping.
-
• #50698
^^ Exactly - they 'took it to them' when they were the best team in the world with a leader in top shape. This year the team is under-powered and their leader was breathing through half a lung a couple of months back. While Pogacar is better than ever and has the strongest team he has ever had. The notion that they are in a position to make things difficult for UAE this year was unlikely at the start of the Tour and absurd after the first 2 weeks.

One of the 3 is going to crack but who?
It's decided in advance. They take it in turns to crack to convince the sponsors that they're racing clean.

So KOTM, when it just reflects GC podium is it time to bin it off in favour of something else?
I was thinking this, such a shame. Is this GC riders getting around better, or less climbing specialists? I'm thinking the former after the way they blew past everyone the other day.
Time to get excited! What are your forecasts?
