does anyone know of a working # for mielec? I tried the one on the website, no dice, no reply from email :/
-
• #5230
How about the emailadress you used for ordering it?
-
• #5231
yeah, I'm waiting, I called (+48) 17 5812180, the other # on the website, some lady picked up but I didn't know how to speak Polish :/, they told me to call mobile for Robert, but mobile #, no one picks up

very sad, I'll be out 350 pounds :/ , I don't think it's repairable, brought it to bike shops around me and they all rejected to repair
-
• #5235
Did you pay with a credit card or PayPal? Might be able to dispute it that way if Mielec are being difficult. Probably worth going back to them and saying that you've been told it's not repairable by local experts and offering to take them to small claims court if they don't repair or replace it? A bit of pressure probably won't hurt.

I paid via wire transfer , I highly doubt I'd get it back, I simply put trust in Mielec , they did deliver, but the packing was not enough to protect the frame unfortunately, I'm not sure if the package was inured , I do see the packing slip saying value 500, and it was shipped through Poland Post ... to the US and then picked up by USPS

Just give them the opportunity to reply. You only messaged them yesterday no?
-
• #5238
yeah, Robert replied and told me to repair it , but the bike shops in my city (there are about 20) all said no to aluminum frame repairs because of potential cracking, I asked Robert for a replacement, waiting for reply
-
• #5239
Ah I didn't know he already replied. Maybe you can carefully try to bend it back yourself?
-
• #5240
I don't think it's possible if 20 shops around me have taken a look and declined to help, but idk
-
• #5241
probably shops don't want to take responsibility for this ( and they are right) but if i were you i will try to diy it. pick some good pliers and try to bend it into position. usually mielec use some thick materials and you can possibly be able o make it usable. anyway try it, you have nothing to lose at this point.

This^
I wouldn't use pliers tho but a hammer and a rod of some relatively soft material -

Don't do anything to it until you've got a response to your email that you can't find any shops who will repair.
Have you searched for framebuilders in your area? That might deliver a better result.
So far nothing that unreasonable has happened over the last 2 days:
- Manufacturer sends damaged frame
- You contact manufacturer
- Manufacturer asks if you can get it repaired locally
- You ask bike shops
- You update manufacturer.
It's annoying, but if a local builder assessed it and said, "yeah, I can fix that for €100", then it would likely be faster for you and cheaper for Mielec to cover that cost than the cost of shipping both ways and repairing. So I can see the rationale for asking you to check when it's a small outfit.
But really this should be Mielec claiming on shipping insurance and making good.

you have nothing to lose at this point.
Have they already lost their teeth?
-
• #5245
That frame is fucked, I fixed mine as it was a tiny bend, although the exact same place, this one is beyond a safe fix.
-
• #5246
What does this have to do with safety and losing teeth? It's just the place where a sealed bearing sits... As long as you can bend it back and fit the bearing it's not going anywhere.
Ofcourse there is a big change it will crack but it can't get worse than this.

very sad, it seems that the inner head tube is also bent, I don't think it's repairable
That seam around the top of the bearing race isn't going to survive long, if the headtube is bent further down too as suspected then an even bigger failure is possible, if stuff fails at the front, then dentistry may be needed.

for context, it's not just the lip, you can see if I try to insert a fork, it doesn't go through because the main part of the head tube is also bent inwards
If i were to diy, I would have to bend the lip back to sit the bearing , and then also use a clamp to squeeze the main head tube round again so the fork can pass through

Nothing has been done to the frame in terms of trying to repair it, I'm holding off and waiting for Robert's response.
I have been to about 20 local bike shops, 2 referred me to frame repair shops, I went to those frame repair shops and they said they can try to tap it out, but because the bend is in the front and not the sides, there's a chance the head tube will break during the repair ... So because they weren't confident, we wait
I asked Robert about claiming Polish Post insurance, I'm not sure if insurance was bought on this package, as USPS told me they didn't see any insurance listed. Polish Post would know for sure, and I just wasted $10 of minutes and waiting 3+ hrs for someone to pick up... They closed at 8pm so I will try to call again tomorrow to see if there is a claimable insurance
And yes, it's likely , no bike shop wants to take responsibility for further damaging a frame, which is why I'm getting rejected left and right
Just very unfortunate, but if Robert would send another one that would be the best case since I wouldn't have to worry about repairing, and if repaired, falling off the bike when it does break

Oof yes I see now, no point in attempting that yourself.
Was the box it arrived in very damaged? Was there no foam protection stuff around the headtube?
yes, I hope they reply soon ! tyty
