  • Private equity firms sniff around for industries full of value generated by passionate and creative people doing stuff they love, and then buy up all the biggest and best companies with the niftiest IP. But of course they don't stop there; then they milk it all to death, cutting costs and ripping out dividends until the main product of the industry is hollow scammy nostalgia. Currently happening to computer gaming.

    It's neoliberalism, innit. 'Advanced' countries don't need a manufacturing sector, instead the most important thing is an unfettered 'financial services' 'industry' to 'maximise' 'value' for 'everyone'
