Argentina’s squad, though, have succeeded in souring their Copa moment after a video emerged showing some of their players taking part in racially offensive chanting on the team bus — with a song containing derogatory references to France internationals of African descent.
One question you’ll immediately ask, among many others — why, at the end of a tournament involving nations from the Americas, would Argentina be singing about the French?
The controversy can be traced back to the 2022 World Cup. Before the countries met in the final, pockets of Argentina fans were recorded chanting about how certain French players had African ancestry or were first- or second-generation immigrants.
