Yeah I've been to Panama City, which was cool for us pre-kids and at that point in our travels but not what we're after.
It was prompted by looking at Caye Caulker, then wondering how expensive Costa Rica is now (too expensive) and thinking Panama could be a middle ground. Although travel to Bocas del Toro x4 seems to change the pricing quite a bit.
I can't really think of anywhere else that offers the same things. Plus the volume of flights/routes to Panama City helps.
Anyone been travelling round Panama?
If you did a young family holiday for 10 days in Aug and you wanted to have, a. safe for children swimming beaches and b. cool wildlife, where would you go?
Bocas del Toro? Looks nice, but quite a way from Panama City.
