I think suppressed / silenced rounds are sub sonic?
I haven’t been shot at, so my first thoughts go to films where bullets make whizzing noises.
If the shooter was 150m away, the actual shot would only have been heard half a second after he was shot.
Don’t know when any sonic waves are heard. -

There are so many variables.
Eg what rifle x ammunition x physical location?
Ranges are typically enclosed to some degree for safety which would have totally different acoustics to a big open area.
Also people have awful memories of actual events which are made worse by trauma, so you can only ever rely on these little specific details to a limited extent.

Why doesn't anyone behind him run for cover or at least look a bit concerned. Rather then staying their seats.

A big failure of the protection and intelligence services on this one.
I imagine they have tens of thousands of potential nut jobs being monitored, and hundreds of potential attempts neutralised. The US has a long history of assassinations and assassination attempts on politicians.
I dread to think what would happen if the shooter wasn’t a white republican.

^^ Shock.
It's pointless to ask questions like that.
The last time someone was shot next to you and you weren't yet certain of what happened what did you do in those 15 seconds and why?

If a round has hit something else and begun tumbling it can make a buzzing noise
-
• #18008
If a supersonic round goes past you you hear the sonic boom as a crack then the noise from the muzzle as a bang.
I can’t think of a subsonic round that would be accurate at 150m (deLisle carbine?) but organisations that develop stuff like that keep it to themselves. -

If one person has tried I’m sure others will follow 🤞🏽

I’m talking about big outdoor ranges like 100-300m. You hear a BANG as the bullet passes overhead, then 1-2 seconds later you hear the sound from the rifle. If the bullet hits something soft like the earth banks on the range you hear that PEWWWW noise.

Wonder if they’ll release the comms from the sniper. Clearly had a good view of the assailant

the big question no one is asking ...... did he shit his diapers ?

This is nuts. He jumps out of his skin, but appears to be looking directly at him...!? I need to put the phone away.

This will play into the ‘this is why we need good guys with guns narrative’ - but I wonder privately if he doesn’t muse on how close he came to death and how his rhetoric has real deadly consequences.
Do all the background checks you like, but a good guy with a gun only becomes a bad guy with a gun once he’s pulled the trigger

I've also sat under the targets getting shot at. I remember distinctly bang-whizz as the gun is shot then the bullet passes over your head. That was standard NATO rounds. Maybe you were too close to the shooters so the initial bang covered the noise of the bullet

Blimey, years ago when Trump was inaugurated, I distinctly remember a poster being reported and slapped down for expressing a whimsical hope - in jest - that a shot would ring out. Things certainly have changed here.

Melania must have been pretty excited there for a second or two.

The constitutional right to shoot at presidential candidates?

I just read that Reagan got an 8 point poll bump after the assassination attempt in the 80s.

It would also be best for America.
Honestly I don't think it's remotely suspicious.
I would probably reverse the question and ask given the above isn't it surprising that an attempt hasn't been made before? In fact I think it's remarkable how few politicians are assassinated.
