  • Lord Percy & The Equaliser in gladiator 2.

  • What is it with CGI lately? Furiosa's was worse than the 2015 fury road and now this.

  • I'm quite excited about the new Gladiator! I'm probably being overly optimistic though.

  • The enshittification of Prime really has accelerated. All the sub-offers of additional subs, loads of movies simply unavailable. The library is really dwindling. However, this, which has been on my watchlist for a long time - not sure why or when I added it - is currently ‘free’ to watch, and I can highly recommend it. Apparently a fave/influence on Tarrantino.

I guess it’s a pretty basic revenge thriller, but high on the stylistic and unpredictable qualities.

  • Nicolas Cage in Silence of the Lambs remake

  • Mark Kermode's review on YouTube, I thought he said Nick Cave was in it and I was interested. Then I realised he said Nick Cage, and then I wasn't. ...

  • Re Once a Jolly Swagman

Is this Dirk's first appearance in leather?

Perhaps not quite as camp as his leather trousers in the "Singer not the Song".

  • The trousers in question

  • These references may be lost on any one under 60...

  • I never want a waste disposal unit.

  • Very excited to see this!

  • Also very keen on this one! Going to see if I can catch it this week.

  • Yes, I’m quite glad that was mostly left to the imagination!

  • Well I've never seen the singer not the song PC, but it's on the list now. The leather is standard until he's top boy and then he has white leathers...But his strongest cossie is when he spivs up and pencil 'taches, now that's class.

  • In other news:

You can now watch Victim on Youtube.

The Singer not the Song is not one of Rank's finest.

  • Dirk is almost a UK Montgomery Cliff in the late 40s and early 50s; he's also in a film about Borstal boys. And then he does Dr in the House...

  • Decent attempt at a Northern accent in The Servant.

  • Ozzy Osbourne bought his house.

  • A bit topical, but this is worth watching if you haven't seen it. Peter Bogdanovich's first film.

  • Saw Furiosa yesterday, a bit more philosophy and a bit less adrenaline than Fury Road to go with the popcorn, looks and sounds just as good though and Anya Taylor Joy never seems to put a foot wrong.

It’s a shame that Furiosa wasn't released first, and the end credits seem to agree.

  • Watched "The Merger" last night (called Extra Time on Prime), comedy about a backwater Aussie rules footy team and refugees.

It's pretty simple in a way, but funny too and charming.

  • I was so damn hyped for Longles, literally counting days to see it.
Saw it today in cinema and it was one of the biggest movie disappointments I’ve seen in a long time.

    Sad…

  • Also saw Longlegs last night. A great trailer and some excellent reviews tempted me down to the cinema.

I reckon if I'd just caught it without prior knowledge on Netflix or something then I would've been super into it. As it was, it was just...pretty good? Nic Cage I thought actually didn't do anything for it and his role would've been better in someone else's hands. I'm all for a completely OTT Nic Cage performance normally, but I didn't feel like it sat quite right here - I felt like it detracted from the character, like I was too aware that I was watching Nicholas Cage.

Every reviewer who gave it with the 'this is the scariest movie of the decade!!1!' does need their head examining. It's not scary at all. And, to be fair to it, I don't think it's even trying to be particularly scary. Overall it seems to be aiming at creepy and absurd. Took me maybe the first third of the film to clock that most of the reviewers were dunces and I needed to rethink what I was watching. Once I'd reset my expectations I did enjoy it a lot more, definitely had a few laugh out loud moments.

  • Doesn't sound promising. Thinking of offkey, serial killer B movies, I remember this being pretty effective.

Has a very good soundtrack by The The of all artists.
