  • I'm very happy with Mezcals, and even rode them through the winter last year (Peak District trails and a winter series of dual slalom racing) because I CBA swapping tyres. Get the ones with the anthracite sidewalls.

  • Good to know they are versatile enough to cope with a bit of slop.

The anthracite over the tan wall? prefer totally black but I could cope with the anthracite.

I’m currently thinking 2.6” front and rear but have seen a lot of people go smaller on the rear. I’ll have clearance for 2.8” on the front or could go down to 2.4” on the rear.

  • I've heard the tan walls can be a bit fragile for bikepacking. I went with 2.6 both ends, instant party bike!

  • I had barzo and mezcal in 2.6 briefly on the Stanton, but in 29er. I didnt crash on them. But I wasn't trying. That's my only MTB tyre rating system.

  • There's also the new terreno t50 which is black or what looks like a tougher tan wall and in between a dry and a mezcal, but not tried them yet.

  • I like my 29x2.6 mezcals, but haven't really ridden other tires of this flavour.
They feel almost fast on hard surfaces, and have enough traction until you ride trails or deep mud.

  • Many many miles on Mezcals, 2.6", grey sidewall, amazing tyre, often some deals around too

  • I had 2.6 Barzo Mezcal combo on the Stanton before moving to a more tyre clearance Ardent Race combo. Oh, but 29er not 27.5.

  • Mezcals look like the one then, thanks all.

I found one in stock for £28 so hopefully can find another for a good deal too.

  • Thanks, I spent ages searching and bikeinn never showed up in the results.

£40 was the best I could find from other places so this is great.

  • They're cheap, but christ do BikeInn take a long time to deliver anything. I just waited 11 days for a saddle from them

  • I don’t even have the frame yet so slow delivery isn’t a concern

  • Tempted by this ...

  • That's quick compared to how slow they are to (partially*) refund you if you ever have to return anything.

*my last (and final, I won't use them again) return cost me £10 in their fees, for a £70 item.

  • Can anyone recommend a 29 tyre that’ll roll quite nicely on tarmac?
I’m planning some touring on my MTB which will have quite a bit of tarmac between off road sections.
    2.6 width or bigger.

  • Mezcal.

  • I like how they just wait for a couple of weeks before telling you they don't have "the thing".

  • I’m still finding out who will ship to Singapore and who won’t.

  • I don’t think the geo changes with the mullet as it comes with different shock mounts to adjust for the change in wheel size.

Perhaps don't change the shock mounts then? Or just buy the smaller bike and a 50mm stem?

  • Long shot, but does anyone have a set of bars with some backsweep they're looking to part with? I've been getting a bit of pain in the outside of my right wrist and reckon a bit more sweep might sort it out.

I don't think I need to go down the Jones/Mary route yet, I'm thinking more a backsweep in the teens.

  • Not looking to get rid of them but I got some Salsa bars from the classifieds on here recently and am finding them a real good ratio of width and sweep. Hold on and I’ll try find what they are.

Edit: They were from this thread but @broken_777 has removed the details of the sold stuff.

    Maybe Bend Deluxes.

Way more mountain bike-y than city bike-y. Would defo recommend.

  • This is exactly the sort of thing I'm after. I've also been looking at SQ Labs 30x but I'd like to try something cheaper before dropping north of a hundred quid.

I guess the other option is a shorter stem. I'm on an 80 atm (very long arms).

  • The old chalk way/ridgeway between princes Risborough and Swindon was in good condition this weekend.

Only let down by it ending with swindon which is a. A horrible town and b. A nightmare to get on the train from with a bike. Thankfully we made it on to the second one that turned up.

Probably better off riding from swindon to PR tbh then you can be more sure of a train back to town.
