Looks like it has its beady eyes on you…

I think, not sure, but there is a white egret thing that is around by the waterlink way. On the bit before the halfords/catford bridge.

There definitely is, probably more than one as I've seen them there but also around the eastern side of Beckenham Place Park too.

Haven’t been near either lake in CP park of late but presume they are still there also.
Evidently there are kingfishers on Norwood lake. It’s not that far from me but only been there once, tend to walk in Dulwich/Sydenham hill woods as they are on the doorstep, no egrets there though.. -

I dunno, in the winter months it's wet enough.

I've not seen them myself, but there are kingfishers in South Norwood Country Park too.

Any recommendations for reasonably portable binoculars circa £300?

Highly recommend Nikon Monarchs.

Blackcap in the garden today, didn't manage to get a pic though.
On Herons, met one on the river last week.

Nice pic.
Almost looks like its hovering over a mahoosive hot chocolate.
Kestrel?

Anyone know what it is?

The M5 are in the prime day sale

tempting - although Park Cameras have the M7 8x30 for £20 more.

Buzzard? Fan shape tail with the strip of white matches with the Crossley Guide.
-
• #2918
Was thinking buzzard too.

Picked up Monarch M7 8x30 from Park Cameras in town. Only messed about with them in the garden so far but they seem pretty much spot on.
The ease of use with my less than rock steady grip makes up for the lower magnification.

Glad you're happy - really good image quality for the price - bought mine years ago for the close focus - butterflys'n'that.

do you use 10x for field / distance?
I can see that at some point a second pair is going to be required...
-
• #2922
Thought I had the 10x - just checked, they're actually 8x42 - great doitall set up - have a scope for distance.

I don't think that's a buzzard, they don't hang their talons, it looks a bit narrow and the fingers arent big enough on the wings and the tail also looks narrow and straightish.
Kestrel or similar would be my best guess.
Could be a Hen Harrier, they have the white strip, kestrally looking and flared wings.

Blue tits are back which is nice. They disappeared for a while and I was a bit worried.
