  • I want to build a window seat with storage underneath in a large square bay that is single skin brick and am having worried about damp / condensation if it stops airflow - has anyone considered this sort of issue and is the better answer likely to be ventilation or putting internal insulation between the brick and the storage space?

  • You could insulate it as you'd only loose a bit of storage space. I would use MR MDF, finish in a mould resistant paint, and keep some sort of air flow path.

    My guess would be that as long as other bricks can pull moisture then it shouldn't be critical.

  • Cheers - yeah there's plenty of space so I can lose a bit for insulation, I just didn't know how well it is likely to work! I prefer the idea of insulating as any insulation is probably good to have anyway...
