I'm looking for a watch like my 40mm Helson diver but made of steel. So basically a simple diver.
Preferably not too shiny, Squale 1521 in blasted finish is pretty much it but a bit too expensive.
Any suggestions?? -

Steeldive?

Mido Ocean Star?
EDIT: the cheap ones I saw new on ebay are EU so + tax pretty much the same as the Squale.
Goldsmiths, Ernest Jones etc seem to have plenty of Certinas on sale though -

This for £660 is one of the best proper mechanical divers’ watches out there (if you accept the Seiko accuracy lottery).
The SPB143 is also excellent but you can’t find it as cheap.
There’s also the new SRPL13 which is maybe closer to the Helson style.

Anyone with an skx007/009 looking to downsize to a 013? I am looking for a straight swap.
I’ve had mine for years and wondering about going up to the bigger one. Good condition and serviced last December. On original bracelet unworn by myself (I’m one of those Nato fools!)

Possibly, but also interested in selling my 007. Just doesn't get worn much these days.

Thanks your the recommendations! I already have a Turtle but I find it a bit too bulky. That new Sumo is great but I really dislike the date window and think it will annoy me...

The SPB317 is 40mm, not 44-45 like a full fat Turtle. It’s probably the most compact and certainly the slimmest mechanical Prospex diver.
But yeah both non starters if you don’t like the 4:30 date.

Love that SPB317!
Also, lovely rainy Tuesday to eveyone.
Bit of colour to this otherwise grey day.

Oh I didn't realise it's smaller, thanks! What's your opinion about the date window?
-
• #78363
I’m fine with it (I have the white one and really like it). My preference with Seikos is generally for a nicely framed window at 3 but they so rarely if ever do that now.
Mine is for sale if you’re interested. I think I said £500 to someone on here. Has both the metal bracelet and the OEM rubber strap which I purchased separately, boxed, spare links etc.

Such a great watch.

Nice.

My guess would be no, because of the specifics of the case interface (it's not-quite-straight on the top and curved underneath) but I've not seen it tried. Maybe it could work.
Edit: confirmed that it doesn't fit.
I'm not looking to split though, sorry. Seiko will sell you one I'm sure, but I would guess it's not cheap since they actually put some effort into it and it's a proper five-link with solid end links made from two different machined parts joined together.

Yeah, it is, that's my reaction every time I bring it out, but in reality it just doesn't get worn much, purely because of the Pelagos.

Uncle Straps (formerly Uncle Seiko) make a number of bracelets for the SPB Willards though, including an engineer style one.
Their UK stockist (which I'm pretty sure is owned by them) doesn't have the engineer one though.

Thanks. Need to wear it more!

They are very accurate with their vintage recreations and yeah, I also like that one. Would be better if it was hand wound and therefore thinner but what can you do.
Edit: this Vulcain is a nice vintage style hand winder for similar money

I can’t shift this, anyone keen at £375 posted? I thought these go for way over £400 on eBay. I just haven’t had a the eBay discount yet.
36mm, hand wound, 2021 watch

Omigod. Is that for real?
What about the chainsaw bezel which Bond had? There must be a way of building a real one. I'd buy it.
