  • Or 12 speed Di2.

  • It took 400km but finally found some SFAB in central Asia, getting those home grav feels.

  • I've got an Arkose from a few years ago with a QR rear and 47mm tyres fit fine with room to spare. I commuted on 47mm Specialized Trigger Reflects for a while.

Currently using 2" 650b tyres which are also all good. Did try some 2.2" 650b MTB tyres but they were too big!

  • That's how my Tripster was done when I changed bars and over to GRX shifters. Brakes aren't done so shouldn't be an issue. Maybe need to explain what I want to a shop better. You only get out what you put in and I've put in nothing so far :)

  • I don't want 27 different batteries on the bike. I'm sure it will be fine, I just need to stop changing my mind and leave it in one place long enough to be finished.

  • Dare I open up a can of worms and ask what groupset you all prefer? I might be building a winter/gravel/off road bike beginning of next year. I've got Sram on the BMC, I had Sram on my Rondo and the Focus CX... I think the last time I used Shimano is when I used to mountain bike... and that was because it was the only real groupset around. I'm not even thinking about an electronic groupset and up to a point, was thinking of Klampers or Yokozuna brakes.

Frame is looking like it's gonna be a Mason Bokeh

  • My missus runs Di2 on her Bokeh and Sequoia and I run Di2 on my Tripster and Crux and Resolution and Shiv. I'll let you guess which groupset I prefer :)

  • If you're using it as a winter bike I'd go 2x. GRX Crankset with 48/31 chainrings and a SRAM 11-36 cassette at the back will you give all the range you need.

Also if you want to use mechanical disc brakes, just use 105 cable shifters instead of GRX ones.

  • I was campag for years, switched the road bike to old SRAM eTap a year ago and love that.

Built a gravel bike with GRX mechanical - I get why people like Shimano now, just works.

  • GRX Crankset with 48/31 chainrings and a SRAM 11-36 cassette at the back

This is my set up, and therefore the correct answer.

  • I had a SRAM 11-36 on the Mason when I crashed. I blame SRAM.

  • I'll bare that in mind when I choose!

  • Yokozuna brakes

Are just Juin Techs with nicer housing.

Get Juin Techs and swap the pads and rotors for SwissStop, and get a Jagwire compressionless housing.

  • Get GRX everything you weirdos, cable discs are silly unless you're on a budget, which you're not if you're looking at klampers.

  • Why the sram cassette? Shimano make a 11-36

  • cable discs are silly unless you're on a budget.

Not strictly true. Lots of reasons, like travelling with a bike in bits, adjustable, repairable etc etc.

  • I'm still stuck on 11 speed!

  • Do they? I thought they only did 34 still.

Anyway, it was because I bought it and another one way back when Shimano only made 32T for road. I normally use a 40 or 42T MTB cassette but the SLS1200 was a pretty flat event so I thought I'd run the 36T for closer spacing, better chainline.

  • I would rather have externally run hydro if travel packing was an issue. As for adustability and repair - I'd rather not do either, hence hydro being the only thing I'll run.

  • You can travel with (couplers are available), adjust (although they do that themselves as far as pads go) and repair hydros (massive failures might need harder to find in the wilderness parts, but they're generally more reliable), and they work better.

  • Link pls. Would happily use a shimano cassette over a SRAM one but SRAM was the only option I could see when I was building the bike.

  • Defo going 1x just because I live in Essex and it's not that hilly... I thought about Klampers etc but I think Hydro is better... might be tempted by Shimano, but it looks like it's more expensive even 2nd hand than Sram... I'll be getting the majority of parts 2nd hand... frameset, wheels, bars, seatpost etc will all be new. Wheels wise, I'm looking at Hope (brake calipers as well maybe) and Arkane.

  • There is a 12s Shimano 11-36. Not sure about 11s.
