• As per title, I need a 1" threadless headset and spacers so I can MacGyver a solution to my 1" threaded forks not having enough thread on them. Only really need the top cup and some spacers, so if anyone's got an incomplete headset that has the above, that'd be ideal. Doesn't need to be posh or anything, but silver would work better than black.

    Cheers.

  • I have black spacers if you can't get silver.
    £Postage

  • May take you up on those if nothing comes through. Cheers.

  • Now I have to google 'McGuyvering' wtf

  • LOL. Basically something that will end up in the bodges/hacks thread.

  • Hahah OK I get it. Weird expression! Seems very USA ish.

So have you spotted this? Bargain!

  • MacGyver was a TV programme in the US...often parodied on the Simpsons.

  • Yeah, but they're threaded and also £35 for essentially a top cup is way more than I want to pay.

  • Ah, I remember how thoroughly confused I was when Pattie and Selma (?) kidnapped McGuyvor, who I thought was the same as the manga/anime dude The Guyvor.

Onto the problem, is this only because the threads are too short? Is there a lower-stack headset that will work so you have enough thread. Some shops can thread your forks for you too.

Yeah, the issue is the forks stick out of the top of the headtube about two inches before the thread starts, so the (threaded) adjusting cup is two inches higher than it should be (i.e. flush to the top of the headtube).

  • Still looking for a silver 1" threadless headset and spacers. Anyone?

  • You can get more threads added to your steerer, most bike shops will have the tools to do it.

  • Apparently not if it's a chromed fork, which it is. Guess I could ask all the same.

  • The chroming would not be on the steerer or threads anyway

  • It is. All the way up to where the current thread stops.

  • Oh really? Well there you go. I'm not sure how difficult it is to remove chrome finishing but where theres a will, there's a way.

  • I'm not having much luck with the threadless headset search, so I might just take it to the local bike shop and see if they can stick some more thread on it anyway. I'll need them to chop it back a bit anyway, so may as well ask.
