I think also that Pogacar has learnt where he is weakest (relatively) and to counter that he is taking the initiative and attacking on his terms.
He did that last year, several times and as I said, people said that was why he lost the tour (burning too many matches too early). It just depends how rested he is from the Giro as it's not like he's had a spring injury like last year.
