  • What's the name for this kind of training? What are they trying to achieve here?
    From the vid recording on Lanterne Rouge it looks as if he is going full tilt on a very low gear, and then there are the cotton balls up his nose.

  • Presumably that's from his pre-race warm-up yesterday?

    He's preparing his body for the 30 minute effort to come, so get the blood flowing, open up the airwaves, warm up the muscles, etc. The cotton wall will have something like Olbas oil on it, something to stimulate the respiratory system.

  • As Andy says. It’s helpful to also get the fast twitch muscles working even for a TT. The British Cycling standard 20 minute warm up includes these.
