  • Mad! What are they?

  • Gonna be so good. Is the room ok? I bet they sound wild in a bare warehouse. Actually I imagine sacks of coffee beans are probably pretty good acoustically

  • There’s quite a lot of stuff to diffuse reflections in the warehouse but yes it’s very much on the lively side. I can sit nice and close to them though. I’ve only had a chance to listen to a few songs and it’s like nothing else I’ve experienced before. Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense is incredible.

The new place will have a much lower ceiling and be more full of stuff, not much of it soft though. I’ll have to make sure the green coffee stock is kept high as like you say they must help.

  • They are LALS 12se-G.

They're a brand who used to oem for other brands (like JBL).
Bit of a left field choice, but I was getting annoyed with local dealers (for other brands) who had no stock to demo and would only get speakers in if I bought them upfront.
So not paying dealer margins and taking advantage of NZ/Taiwan free trade meant they're half price from comparable models like fyne vintage classic 12.

  • Electronics sorted for the new shop setup. Went for the Fiio R7 with the fancy power supply for the source as it’s so standalone and intuitive for anyone to use.

Yamaha is gorgeous. Always wanted one of the premium models.

  • That Yamaha is gorgeous. After I saw that when they first came out, I bought a Technics hifi with all the VU meters. But might be a bit old for my needs, and needs a cap replacement as it's from the mid 70s.

  • Looking at upgrading my portable audio set up. Currently using technics Bluetooth wireless ear buds and my mobile phone (pixel 8a) which is pretty ok but am starting to notice the SQ limitations of Bluetooth more and more. Previously I had a dragonfly blue DAC and a set of blon cheap iEMs. SQ was better but the reason I changed was the faff of all the wires and extra stuff, which was a pain when travelling. I've got an old set of sennheiser hd 25s that I can dig out. I'd rather not have to carry around another device but beginning to think I may need to. I guess I am looking for recommendations for a set up with excellent SQ but not too cumbersome to carry around?

  • @Stevethecoffee That so needs a Yamaha Gigantic and Tremendous turntable to go with it

  • googles it

Oh yes that would be perfect. Fingers crossed for a busy first year…

  • @Stevethecoffee - where is this new place?

  • I would want to own one purely because it says “Gigantic and Tremendous” on the front

  • Fugly though. I don't think I could live with that box sorry to say. (Think it's the logo that does it)

  • That is nice. I love my lowly AS-500 in silver

  • That so needs a Yamaha Gigantic and Tremendous turntable

It’s called a what? TAKE MY MONEY!

  • What a dredge! I got something similar by Denon in the end. Still fugly but it sounds lovely and I've freed up more shelf space for more records!

  • Love a dredge! Glad it's working out! I'd do the same but I love my silver Yamaha AS-500, but I would like the ability to stream and have DAB etc must admit....

  • Yeah being able to pop NTS on while WFH is good

  • Next on the list is a pair of nice tall floor standing speakers but I need to organise the rest of the room first, which means solving the CD storage problem

  • Stupendous

  • Me too, that’s why I got the 1100. There’s honestly not much in the sound quality department between the two, it’s just the family heirloom build quality that appeals more.

  • Can’t say exactly, it’s not public knowledge yet but one of the villages just outside of Northampton.

  • Definitely one to mention between putting on the Sade and making the coffee..

  • I’ve had it back on good authority from a friend in the industry. “Feedback from a friend at Yamaha: Absolutely superb sounding thing too. Rather rare in Europe as you might imagine!”
