  • What is this area behind the windscreen of a car / bus commonly called in english?
I always thought it's the / it's part of the "dashboard" (but now realize the dashboard is rather where all the instruments are that are facing the driver).

Google suggests "cowl" or "cowling", but I feel that is a very technical term?

  • That’s also the dashboard IMO or the dash top. All a bit Americanised. Cowling would be the intakes for the radiator edit: engine cooling or, depending on the vehicle, those external vents.

  • Vestigial coaming.

  • That is the dash board, where the instruments are is the binnacle or instrument cluster.
