Is literally an aesthetic finish really, I just prefer how it looks. If anything it actually covers more than the original lens hood so it probably does make a small improvement in that retrospect
You can still run filters with it as they thread on the inside and the square hood fits onto the outer wall of the lens.

If I didn’t have the pens already I’d be well keen on this. Question though as I’d also considered one of the square hoods, does it make a difference or is it one of those things that look good but make minimal functional difference? I’ve always not had goods as I like to attach physical filters (vs post processing) and it seems a faff but wonder if I’m missing out
