If you don't want to host Roon anymore, WiiM really is the shit. I only use Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect + sometimes Airplay and I never, ever open the WiiM app. Like ever. But the WiiM app is pretty good anyway! No real complaints here. It lets me listen to English radio in the U.S. as well really easily which I really appreciate - but that's just a me thing.

ah, will it not run Roon?
it says "Roon ready" and "Use your Roon app as your remote to control music playback through WiiM Pro."
So I'm a bit unclear as to what that means. I'm not 100% committed to Roon but it's handy to integrate local files with Tidal.

It can act as a Roon node. It can not act as your Roon server. You'd still need a computer/Nucleus/NAS/Rock to do that. Sorry if you knew that already and I misunderstood your previous message. Just assumed you were trying to bin the laptop altogether cause you said 'replace' :)

ah yeah - 100% i am trying to bin the laptop. understand now; thanks!

I missed your earlier question...
The best way to run the Roon endpoints is ethernet. You can use a Raspberry Pi with an audio hat running Roipeee to get the ethernet into audio and through to an amp.
You can find a lot of streamers that will accept an ethernet input.

I bought a second hand record player, however I'm not getting sound out of the left speaker channel. It's not the amp or the speaker - what would be the best process for troubleshooting and fixing it?

what would be the best process for troubleshooting and fixing it?
Continuity check from the cartridge to the phono plugs that go into your amp would be the first step. The leads from the turntable chassis to the headshell in particular are quite delicate and can get broken in transit, or just from years of flexing to accommodate tracking the tone arm.
If the wiring checks out, the problem is in the cartridge. I'm assuming here that the phono stage of your amp worked with some other turntable. -

Cheers, tested with another amp, definitely an issue with the record player.

Just replaced the screen on my UnitiQute2. They go dim and then invisible over time and it’s a known fault on all the Qute/Super-uniti/any Naim streamer of that vintage with a screen.
Naim can replace it but it has to go back to them via a dealer but a chap in France sells a kit for €100 with instructions, works fine via an app but that’s until you change wifi and then you are just wildly pressing buttons on a remote while holding a towel over you head and amp with the lights off trying to read the screen.
Wasn’t difficult but no idea where the remote is and the interface is now in French...

Has anyone got any recommendations for decent aftermarket ear pads for Sennheiser HD650?
I've got some of the cheap Chinese ones off eBay which are fine quality-wise but keep falling off. I can't stomach paying £50 for the official replacements.

My Rega Planar 3 has been lying unused for a long time now. And it's time to move it on. I expect it's a bit normal for anyone on here, but if you have friends who say 'you're a bit obsessive about hifi xxxx, what deck shoud I buy to play my 80s classics?', maybe give me a shout.
It's an 80s model, with NAD-branded RB250 arm, AT95 cartridge, upgraded wiring throughout and a clear acrylic platter. It's really neat, I popped a brand new lid on it recently. I think £250 is reasonable.

I'm looking to improve the music option in my kitchen from the trusty anker bluetooth speaker. I have an entertainingly named chifi amp and wifi receiver from nobsound that I'm entirely happy with and am just looking for some cheapish bookshelf speakers to pair with it. Anyone have anything they're looking to move on or particular recommendations before I buy a paid of used KEF speakers on Ebay, mostly because I like their aesthetic.
Cheers

Opening a second shop, it’s 2000 sq ft so a pair of bookshelves isn’t going to do it.
I’m going to pair them with a 1 box streaming amp for ease of use but have my Quad IIs available on a switch box from the pre-outs for special occasions.

Great stuff! Can’t wait to get a proper system behind them in a softer room. They made me laugh out loud yesterday with how vivid they are.

July is clearly all about big horns.
Got these currently winging their way to me from Taiwan.

Having uplugged / swapped a few things, it is evident that it is definitely the laptop which is introducing noise into the audio output. Not sure why but it was a fairly cheap HP and must be more than 5 years old now, could be more like 7 or 8.
Right now, I'm quite tempted to replace it with a wiim pro, but i've not fully researched his option and I have limited patience for interface management so that could be a challenge. One of the reasons that I went for a windows laptop + Roon was the plug and play aspect of it.
