I thought this too, right before they evaporated

Oh god what are those sunglasses

DG winning with the banned beak? DQ him now

Marginal noses.

They look like an Olympic Pursuit team. Must be a whole lot of training. Paid for with corruption and oil.

UNO-X did a hero pull, think Astana got caught out on the wrong side of the final turn.

Philipsen relegated for closing the door on Wout Van Aert. Which is harsh in my view, there was a tiny gap against the barriers and Philipsen closed it, as anyone would if someone was trying to sneak between you and the barriers.

I see your view but it seemed egregious to me hence I said it earlier.
Close but definitely to much for me

Need to record Escape Collective's in depth squashed fox reporting from yesterday's stage

Even more pretentious than ever. The Cav worship piece is so overwritten that it's just a parody of itself. https://escapecollective.com/mark-cavendishs-ways-of-seeing/ Bankruptcy is inevitable.

Cavendish was given a 30 second penalty today, and deducted 10 points in the green jersey competition. I assume that was for drafting when he was off the back after one of his mechanicals. Did they mention this in any of the tv coverage?
-
• #50289
Normally don't hear about penalties until the next day.

Thought that nose cone was banned by the UCI. Or did they just ask nicely for him not to wear it and bring the sport into (further) disrepute.
-
• #50291
Yeah. Was in the ITV show. Cav was grumbling at the moto camera while he was glued to the bumper of the team car.
-
• #50292
They allowed it again because now they sell it in their webshop so it's available to everyone.
-
• #50293
Oh, so that was the whinge, it wasn't publicly available. Yet they were reporting prices for it, so someone must've found it online. Hmm, whatever. I have aero gainz limits...
-
• #50294
He was sitting on the bumper of the chief commisaire’s car for a good few minutes while telling the camera to piss off
-

The gap was tiny when Philipsen’s deviation was complete. That was a clear cut case of obstruction and endangering.
He’s done worse, but those should have been penalised, too.
Overhead shot shows it clearly, and, more importantly, shows that if he hadn’t obstructed Wout he could’ve taken a straighter line to win the stage!

Painted guidelines would make it unavoidably clear for the riders and could help the assembly team keep the barriers dead straight, too.

Sprint lanes are var for cycling.

• #50298
I've seen people win with more dangerous moves than that. The barriers were a major contributor there, as a) there was one where it bulged out quite noticeably and b) they were narrowing on that side towards the finish.
It is what it is. No point arguing about it, I'd just like to see some consistency.

UAE can be a fearsome team but sometimes remind us they’re the old Lampre that happened to stumble across a gold bar.
Love this from inrng this morning.

‘I’ve seen worse’ and ‘anyone would’ve done it’ don’t change the rules.
No one’s arguing the UCI are consistent, that’s for sure.
Philipsen probably getting a little fine.
