I've seen people win with more dangerous moves than that. The barriers were a major contributor there, as a) there was one where it bulged out quite noticeably and b) they were narrowing on that side towards the finish.
It is what it is. No point arguing about it, I'd just like to see some consistency.
The gap was tiny when Philipsen’s deviation was complete. That was a clear cut case of obstruction and endangering.
He’s done worse, but those should have been penalised, too.
Overhead shot shows it clearly, and, more importantly, shows that if he hadn’t obstructed Wout he could’ve taken a straighter line to win the stage!

Painted guidelines would make it unavoidably clear for the riders and could help the assembly team keep the barriers dead straight, too.
