Any unevenness will give you a more uneven extraction. The greater the uniformity, the more control you will have over the extraction. Much like why it's so important to have a good grinder for espresso as the consistency of the grind, and ability to make minor but accurate adjustments is key for dialling in different beans.

Ahh sorry! I think it just distributes the grounds and breaks up clumps, so the water will flow through more evenly creating a more even extraction. The clumps can be too small to see but make a difference to the taste.

My eyes keep getting drawn to the ear on that mug…

It's clearly a King Charles special edition.

I like how tidy they make things. Way less backflushing needed.

No idea if this is any good. It looks nice though.

They all do basically the same thing. Wine cork + needles works just as well as the £375 WDT clone with NiTiNOL whiskers.

I use a Christmas cracker whisk with the ends chopped off…

First yellow bourbon subscription, very excited.
Went for the espresso and decaf as they both sounded very nice.

After a succession of these died on me, I have swallowed the bullet and plumped for the timemore black mirror. The response rate is fantastic for one, it's beautiful for two, but I'm hoping for better heat/water ingress resistance as well - only had it for maybe half a year so time will tell.

Desperate times = Desperate measures
There’s a pic on here years ago where I raided the chemistry glassware cupboard at work for a funnel so I could brew a hokey V60!

Gauze for filter paper...
-
• #26969
You can use an emptied tea bag as an aeropress filter.

• #26970
I see nothing wrong here

To be fair, using the Chemex with the default folded filter paper definitely brought back memories of Chemistry class!

Made my first YB espresso using the decaf. My wife commented that it’s bitter. Should I grind finer or courser?
-
• #26973
accepted wisdom is coarser to reduce bitterness.

There's a recent Lance Hedrick video on decaf (linked by someone else a page or so ago) in which he suggests pulling faster shots for decaf. Might be worth giving that a try - Grind courser and pull in 20-25 seconds?

I always have to grind much coarser for decaf.
The wdt should arrived today. I did try with a safety earlier and I’m happy to say there was an improvement.
I can’t understand how though. The coffee went in fluffy, then got compressed, so what’s different?
