Breath between takes, please.

So I don't know if anyone else had the same problem as I did (too much high frequency reverb on vocal takes from a small and reflective room, making them sound tinny) but I picked up a foam reflection shield on amazon for £40 and it's incredible:

I don't think you'd need one of these unless you're recording in a very tacky and small room - I'd never needed one before - but if you do have that problem, I fully recommend it. Now all I need to do is re-record all my guitar and vocal parts!

Oh yeahhh I didn’t even think about a reflection filter and I was probably looking at mine when I wrote my reply before

Just restrung my Steinberger (for the first time in about a year...), I forgot what a joy to work with those things are. I've never worked with a proper Floyd Rose bridge, but with the Steinberger setup it was done in 5-10 mins. Probably about the same amount of time as it'd take me to restring a fixed bridge guitar. With the additional time of setting the bridge tension being offset with not having to wind/cut the strings.

That looks great, also available on Temu for mega cheapz. Think I'll grab one.

anyone in here played a Line6 Hex One? I've been down a massive pedal rabbit hole all week, and I wonder if that might be the best way of scratching the itch, and letting me have a different modulation/time effect for every song without buying all the pedals and having the QE2 for a pedalboard.

This works fine too albeit unfun on a hot day...

Interesting… I’ve never bothered doing any kind of acoustic treatment when recording vocals. Or anything really. My space is quite dead/neutral being irregular shaped, messy, and covered in books, soft furnishings and instruments so it hasn’t really presented as a problem. Might try one them thingies tho.

I'v used one of those iso cubes (the one from Studiospares) to record some voiceovers in random spaces for work and they worked very well!
@Dooks-Fatberg How's the little Vox treating you? Had meant to post back but parenthood arrived a good couple weeks earlier than expected and I've been in that bubble for a while since then!

Does anyone on here have any experience with a Black star HT-1R? I'm thinking of getting one, but I'd be interested to know how long it takes to warm up. I can be slightly impatient.

I've got an HT-5R and it takes barely any time to warm up. Though I usually kick things off then faff with pedals before switching it fully on. But from memory (i.e. before I could be arsed with pedals) it doesn't take long.
Edit: I could do a quick timing experiment if you like.

I'd urge you to all check out this guy on IG. I've never actually heard a fretless guitar sound good to be honest, always just a bit of a flashy shredder wankfest, but he makes the most beautiful sounds on his! It's inspiring me to look into picking up a cheap Squier Telecaster to try it myself!

Spent four hours in a nice rehearsal place last night absolutely murdering a pile of Hendrix tunes on the Scrounge-o-caster thru an Orange AD30 and 4x12. It was sweeeeet

Excellent, thanks. I don't need a precise number - 'barely any time' is accruate enough for me!

Love an AD30 - the crunchy bastard child of an AC30 and a Marshall 18w!

So, I suck at guitar.
Played punk/ska as a yoof but since then I’ve always been the guy that picks up their guitar a few times a year and thinks ‘damn, I should really learn to play this properly’.Out of the blue my partner got me a block of online lessons with Bob Balch from Fu Manchu.
I’ve never had a guitar lesson in my life and now absolutely shitting myself with nerves.
That is all :/

Awesome present. You'll be grand; he'll suss out where you're at, and start from there. I'm sure you'll get something out of it.

Anyone happen to have a Classic Vibe Squier they want to offload? Preferably a 50s Telecaster but open to others too...
c.£250 budget but cheaper would be nice and may need posting to Ireland.

There's an Affinity going for v.cheap in the Classifieds if that's of any interest.

That's absolutely brilliant! Love a bit of Fu Manchu.
Should make for a great lesson too, the way he plays is none of the fluff and all of the slap without overly technical or fancy fretwork.
Ultimately the point is not how good or bad you are, it's that you're keen to get better at it, which is great and something no musician at any level would ever have anything but respect and encouragement for. Enjoy!

I'll take a look, I've not tried an Affinity so unsure of how they are but I've heard really excellent things about Classic Vibe.
-
• #14774
I think there are a fair few differences (standard saddles on the Affinity vs vintage barrel style on the CV, ceramic vs alnico pickups). Haven't tried an Affinity but did have a go on a CV when I was last at GAK in Brighton and I was not hugely impressed. It was OK, I guess, but I prefer the £130 Harley Benton Tele-style one I bought instead.

Interesting, I hadn't really considered a Harley Benton... I'm just looking for something cheap-ish that I can try out a fretless neck on... the appeal of the Classic Vibe is that I've quite fancied one anyway if fretless isn't for me.
ah right, yeah that is trickier. go for opium-den chic, and all the soft furnishings will deal with it
