As a nod to that I’m thinking black ITM bars and stem, white tape, white cables.
Between that and your silver post, I'd say you really need that 9000 crankset to tie it together. Or if you go the Campy route, a carbon crank with that white text on it could also work, but then the seatpost is kind of on its own, only the headset to keep it company.
How about just throw it together with whatever Shimano you can cobble together, and just gradually build up a 9000 group from used parts when you find them at a good price, maybe just NOS for the crankset?

How I approach it:
Step 1:
- frame for 7s or more (130mm): option for modern groupset
- frame for 6s or less: no modern groupset, too much trouble
Step 2: Groupset (if modern groupset option):
- Silver:
- 11s new Campagnolo centaur (but with skeleton brakes) or 2nd hand dura-ace 9000
- Silver 105 is painted and not polished, to avoid
- 10s or below: many options
- Specialite TA carmina cranks are a nice option
- 11s new Campagnolo centaur (but with skeleton brakes) or 2nd hand dura-ace 9000
- Black:
- many options but Campagnolo Chorus has the best modern option price/look/feel ratio
- many options but Campagnolo Chorus has the best modern option price/look/feel ratio
Step 3: wheels
- Silver: very painful to find
- Black: a lot
Step 4: Cockpit
- Silver: Classic stem: Cinelli / Deda / Nitto
- Black: Modern stem
- frame for 7s or more (130mm): option for modern groupset
Hello Lufguss hivemind.
This Dave Yates-built 753 frame is winging its way to me and I’m wondering what to do to build it up. It’s going to get a modern groupset so I can use a set of 50mm carbon wheels I’ve got hanging about.
The seat post and headset are Dura Ace so that could be a direction to go in but…. Money. Was considering 9000 chainset and the rest in Ultegra.
I do like Campag on older bikes though.
I’m told the bike was built for the Ever Ready Halfords team before being resprayed. As a nod to that I’m thinking black ITM bars and stem, white tape, white cables.
