The retention things seems most likely. Followed up by the "people copying because that's what they see in other successful posts" idea.

Does anyone know why these meme reels accounts use random ChatGPT generated text about cars (they do it when the videos aren't about cars too)? My guess would be that it's because the algorithm privileges content that has long descriptions so it's easiest to give a seed to an LLM and have it generate text for the caption.
