Very smart mate - perfect aesthetics following the tyre.

Yeah, that’s really nice!
Thing about racks that attach at the bottom is they increase rigidity in the fork, I think.
(Turning it into a triangle)I wonder if the curve you’ve used mitigates that a bit? Could be an unexpected benefit.

Really enjoying this bike though it is a size too small (classic)
Updated the pic.

Scored this uncut Thomson and a pair of 10 speed Campag record shifters for the stigmata.
Got a set of hope pro 3s to lace too.
Unsure on direction

In other news, I finally fixed that "scrap" genesis croix de fer I found on ebay.
As @PhilDAS suggested, I cut the seatstay bridge out and straightened (the best I could with what I had) the rear out, once that was okay I braze in a new seat stay bridge.
I think the it went okay and im pleased I managed to save a frame that was deemed scrap metal.
Using a frame alignment gauge at work it seems the frame sits a little (1 - 2mm) off centre to the right, which in an ideal world woundnt exist. I put that down to inexperience.
Though the 25 minute ride each way to work was joyess, the frame tracked and rode fine and I couldn't feel any issues.
All in all, a couple of quid in meterials, a few hours spent, loads of things learnt, success? I think so.

Made a rack for the genesis.
Welded some m5 bottle bosses into it this time so I can cleanly mount it to the fork crown.
Still needs cleaning up but I'm super happy with this one.

Finnito.
I'm going to do a run of around 4/5 of these and then get then powder coated for weather proofing.
Happy how this tuned out. Very solid.
Only thing I'm going to change on the next ones is making them 1cm wider overall so the basket is secured better.
✌️♥️

Very nice!
Would the whole thing be stronger/stiffer if the fork crown bracket was fastened to the rack with two bolts?
-
• #569
Oh yeah of course.
The existing crown bracket was just temp to fit and take photos.

It looks very nice! Makes me want to have a go at melting metal myself!
May I suggest an integrated loop for attaching a security strap/cable tie?
-
• #571
I'd say give it a try. It's very enjoyable.
an integrated loop for attaching a security strap/cable tie?
Do you have any examples?
-
• #572
Nope - I don't think I've ever seen it. It just came to mind as it has been mentioned quite a lot on this forum.
It would probably suffice to have the strap/tie go through the tombstone on your design. -

I have seen people on here mention this too, although I've never had a rack come undone before and I regularly check bolts etc.
Rather check my bolts than have cable ties strapped to my clean looking rack!

I've never had one come undone either - I guess rust is a sort of threadlocker as well :D
Jokes aside I try to use nylock nuts where possible and a little dap of threadlocker and/or spring washers if it's threaded eyelets. -
