Amongst the range of building shittery and horrendous driving that continues to plague these roads, it appears that Northwall Road will be open to traffic shortly - there have been roadworks at the velodrome end to ready the junction. That felt like the last, small, good bit left.

This is the olympic legacy

It is really unclear what the roadworks on Northwall are aimed at. I asked one of the workers and he said he had no idea.
At least this sign is explicit.

I looked into it a bit further. Apparently it will remain shut except as storage for event vehicles when needed, the crossing being made is to make it easier for cyclists navigating the area.

That road from the spiral painted tunnel to East side is great when they arnt filming. A mile of tarmac’d surface without drivists. Bliss.
For P & Q I follow the rivers underneath but it’s not for speed, they’ve just opened a section to the south of the split phonebox.
Shhhh. -

That's the QEOP gravel secteur
I took my kids up that hill back in Lockdown v1.0 and had to hoik their bikes and mine over the fence at the top

The bit over the little bridge after the split phone box is technically the only way you can cycle between North Park and South Park without crossing a road or lugging your bike up a flight of steps. It's been open for quite a few months now, including at the top, but is quite overgrown with brambles near the bottom so watch out for punctures.

That must be about the Red North Wall.

Today is first time riding a bike since the above post I think! Corroborated by Strava at any rate. Was around the same roads. Not much park left now sadly. It’s just a low-rise housing estate pretty much. Roads quiet enough, though. And the long road between the Copper Box and Aquatics centre is now open.

It's not going to be getting any better

In theory more housing is good right?
-
• #64
Ideally not at the expense of green space though

It's tricky - I dont have a good understanding of what this land was pre-olympic park, but I think in general the areas that have been green space temporarily since 2012 have always been pretty clear

There's the bit in between Here East & the river Lea that is being built on.
I remember there being a leaflet that was released, crowing about how the QEOP was the largest green space opened since the days of Queen Victoria. Now loads of it is being built on.
More housing is good, but I don't think highly profitable, high rise blocks of flats is the right way to go about it

Yeah it was always the plan but doesn't mean it's a good plan

It wasn't always the plan. The amount of bad development was massively increased once Johnson became Mayor. The area the sign was that J0nathan posted is about was meant to remain open and to accommodate more of the Velopark. This was greatly reduced once the Tories had taken over. I remember meetings where it was hotly denied that there would be more housing. The Eastway Users' Group called it out as lies then, and lies it was.

Didn’t realise this thread existed. Is it a good place to ask how it was ever passed to build new apartments on Monier Road, right opposite the waste incinerator?
I’m not sure there are any. If you look up thread I wondered about lapping City Airport.
Victoria Park is OK. Riding around the outer park roads was really good mid-lockdown 1. Noticeably less traffic and some calming measures... which got removed and now traffic is worse than ever LOL.
Did a few of these this morning. OK, but not great for traffic. Hoping it gets better in the new lockdown, but won’t hold my breath.
