It's always been a desktop-only thing for me - and (coming back to it after a hiatus of a couple years) I find it pretty much stayed the same - both a good and a bad thing I guess 💁
It's a good platform to follow people's streams I think or dive deeper into their albums etc. - also searching via tags etc. I often find useful.
The whole interface is a bit dated maybe, but actually still works well - you can browse stuff fullscreen-ish in good quality (flickr doesn't reduce filesize if the user uploads big versions), which is a big plus.I wonder how Flickr could get more thoughtful engagement?
Well, it's down to the users I guess? The functionality is there (even though their "messages" interface is pretty crap), but mentioning and commenting etc. works fine - maybe it's just the user's fault if they don't take the time to engage.. maybe these times are just over, with attention spans going down and people are hardly able to drop a quick like, I don't know..
I really miss using Flickr on desktop as a main source of looking at photos. Things have become so dumbed-down (that’s probably not a great turn of phrase) now.
It does seem to be going through a bit of a resurgence but phones aren’t going anywhere.
I wonder how Flickr could get more thoughtful engagement? You could also use something like Medium as a blog platform that links to it but means putting the time in for all that stuff.
Have also been thinking about this a lot lately…
