Can you file the jaws down so they're sharp enough to do the job? My ropey-looking pliers aren't a joy to use, but they work.

'Over-engineering' was a term used at work, rarely as a compliment.

If we're enjoying a bit of labelling.
The cutting board hack can be, taxonomically, a "very neat bodge". -

I really like this one.

The rack top reminds me of the mud/snow guards I made years ago from a big plastic bin for the Pugsley. They lasted a few years before I removed them. One under the downtube and one started by the BB and bent up under the rack. Worked nicely to keep crud off the drivetrain and my legs. .

The IKEA chopping board is such a great material for hacks. I use it as a removable stiffener to give shape to my massive Carradice. This is especially useful for when I have to pack the Carradice flat when travelling.

I imagine it's similar material to the plastic Krazy Karpets that are sold here for winter sledding. Very useful stuff.

Happy with the result. Cheap and funky :) -

Sharp mudguard stays hack— a thin strip of self-amalgamating tape and then valve caps screwed on. Would be great if I could somehow get little red LED bulbs in there too ....

self-amalgamating tape
Hmmm. Has the thread on the valve cap bitten into the tape? Neat.

Why not trim the stays so that they end just past the clamp point?

Because you'd lose the Bladerunner aesthetic.

There are Christmas lights which would fit. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005948982463.html?channel=twinner

I think you can get valve caps with LEDs in, no?
A solution?
