Who grasses the grassers?!
-
• #2403
I'm guessing the investigation is something as simple as looking at a Whatsapp group of officers where it was all discussed. You just need one person to share the contents of the group to implicate a whole bunch of people.

Yeah, Lab haven't campaigned here at all - haven't seen a single leaflet, poster or anything. Clearly one they decided to write off straight off the bat. Shame - a couple of weeks ago the prediction sites were saying it could've been close, and I'd love to get rid of Tugs.

Labour giving in because of the influence of the private schools in the area. A pity.

ChatGPT is of course completely unreliable for things like this
What the Reform manifesto actually says is that it's not our fault that we did slavery because so did Arabs

Political parties have finite resources and target them to ensure the best possible outcome. Given the results of previous elections, the demographics and changes to the constituency boundaries, they've probably looked at Tonbridge and thought that the LibDems are best placed to beat the Tories there, and decided not to waste resources in coming third.

• #2409
EC saying Greens only 6% behind Tories, with Lab behind Greens. So looks like tactical vote is Green rather than Lab.
-
• #2410
The reason people are disillusioned with politics is largely due to the last 14 years of shit government and Brexit.
I'm not so sure it's solely this.
Imo the financial crash, including bailout and lack of consequences is the turning point.
-
• #2411
Ordinary people don't think about the bailout, it's ancient history. But they're aware of the increase of poverty, rising rents and earning so little for full time work that you go into debt just paying for the basics.

That’s a bit shortsighted. How will the small folk remember their place as sub-human assets, to be exploited and discarded and be grateful for the opportunity to be part of GREAT Britain? The peasantry’s place is in the fields/factories/offices, not meddling in government and matters of state.
-
• #2413
It is, no one apart from die hard Tories think of the financial crisis that started in 2008
-
• #2414
I do! It led to Osborne's austerity policy. A breathtaking decision to deliberately plunge ordinary people into poverty. How can a decent society allow a Chancellor to get away with this? Isn't it as immoral as Blair invading Iraq? I'm still incandescent about the complacency of the comfortably off, who all supported austerity, and saw themselves as the real victims of the banking crisis. Because common people don't matter. They're just oiks and chavs. If they have disposable income they waste it on booze and fags and excessive cars.
I still believe that Osborne should have borrowed and invested, which is what Obama did. Or did I get this wrong? I have no grasp of economics.
-
• #2415
Yeah but that's 2010 on and the "current" spell of Tory governance. I think people mainly just remember austerity and things being cut and the start of things becoming sick.
Rightly or wrongly not everyone ties it to the crash.
-
• #2416
While it might not be what people immediately think of, imo it represents a turning point.

I think of Austerity as the cause of children shrinking. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jun/21/children-raised-under-uk-austerity-shorter-than-european-peers-study

Yes it is the bookies. There are two investigations at the moment, one by the Gambling Commission and one by the police, who are looking into the more serious allegations.
Gambling companies have to hand over data to the Gambling Commission and the police, those investigating can then look at suspiciously timed/quantities of transactions and investigate.
But even before that gambling companies are obliged to report any suspicion of an offence to the commission and this includes instances of ‘cheating’.
I don't recall how gamblegate first emerged now but it could (at least in theory) have been gambling companies reporting suspicious activity, especially by politically exposed persons.

This makes those who placed bets within the Tory party even bigger fuckwits.

They're expecting to lose so they're past caring. All this will be forgotten after next Friday. Might as well make the most of their last chance to exploit their privileged position.

No they aren't.

Channel4 reporting Reform campaigners open racism, homophobia and islamophobia - count me as unsurprised.
But they also confess they have already overspent vs campaign spending limits in Clacton. Not sure what use that will be, as the Electoral Commission have done fuck all with things like this previously.
-
• #2425
Yup - here we go
They are saying some of these are Farage's closest aides too.
Of course, none of this harms his core support. Because they all think the same thing.
Seven police also being investigated. Who is doing all this grassing? Surely not the bookies.
And why don't the papers discuss all the grassing? It's a vital part of the story.
