This is the way forward for don’t worry rides. I built a Boredman version of this last week for a college, who liked the idea of my flat bar MonsterShopper™️ Sequoia. Everything came from eBay and or ali, it all fitted together, it’s got gravelly tyres, rides nice and came in for a claimed <£500. I’ll try and get a pic if they’ll let me.
Oh and it’s 12speed deore which is nice.

here's my current functional bike
in the past (like many here) I've spent a lot of time, effort, and money building 'lock up bikes' that actually turn out to become quite sentimental
this time I took a different approach, nabbed an aluminium hybrid from ebay for less than the cost of a 90s mtb. Added an Amazon rack, some On-One bars, ergon copy grips, and a basic 1x crankset. It all came in at a shade over 200 schmackers
Its liberating actually riding/locking something that I genuinely do not care about
it's got hydraulic discs, and I rode directly over a glass bottle and down a flight of stairs and nothing bad happened
