Having owned a steam roller and now steel vigorelli/Njs frame build (Bomber Pro), I have a valid opinion to share... The Surly was brilliant for commuting duties with the ability to fit large tires 700x38c without room for fenders for a tight fit.. biggest down side to running fatty tires is the compromised acceleration but if comfort is king you will love it... I much prefer tighter handling and less drag from narrow tires in the meantime.

I think the ability to roll over giant potholes and change direction quickly at super low speeds without wondering what side of the wheel my foot might be on is driving this… Mash seems superfluous.

I feel you on the overlap problem at low speed but that is half the fun. I agree the mash would do for anything you can throw at it. Here's my steel vigorelli in wall hanger mode until this Friday... Will be it's maiden Critical mass voyage. Bike Rights!
