  • You could undo the lever via the tiny bolt marked green.

I suspect that there were 2 bushings which have cracked/perished hence the play.

Use the left hand lever as a reference?

  • Thanks. Now to find where to buy replacements

  • Check the model number on https://si.shimano.com/en/ and get the EV pdf, if a part is available, the product code will be listed in the doc.

  • Thank you 🙏

  • Haven't checked that, good shout.

  • It's a 160mm long axle, with roughly 81mm between the shoulders. 6000rs bearings. I think I need a 180mm axle. anyone got any ideas?

  • Bought some tyres for MissNumbers’ Peugeot step-through commuter.

She wanted tan walls. I found Hutchinson Fusion Performance at PlanetX. ÂŁ18 each.

They arrived yesterday and they look and feel nice. I’m considering getting a pair for my Donhou, to replace the tired Vittoria Corsas.

Any forum experience with the Hutchinsons? They’ll get so little use with MissNumbers that it won’t be any sort of decent testing!

  • I think I've asked this before, but I stupidly can't remember the response.

I'm looking to use my everyday commuter as a has potential to be an off road tourer around the Cairngorms in a few weeks.
What is the possibility of changing the 700c wheel set to a 26" wheelset? Will it be a straightforward swap of the wheels? What should I consider?
I'd like a deeper tread tyre for mud, hence going for a smaller wheel to fit a deeper tread tyre.

    Cheers.

  • You're just going to be limited by the width tyre the frame and fork can handle. Whether swapping wheels out to gain a few mm's of extra clearance is worth the faff (and how much lower your bottom bracket and cranks will become) is up to you. Not sure how much extra tyre width swapping to 26" would gain, it'll certainly make it roll slower over rough ground though. I'm never a fan of trying to make a bike try and be something it wasn't meant to be

  • I would just remove the mudguards, can’t see the rear clearance much but looks like you should be able to get some 700c nobblies in there

  • What sort of off-road? Those tyres should be quite capable up to a point.

If this weather holds, will there be much mud?

    and

off road tourer around the Cairngorms

    Hmmm.

Tbf, hence my first question of "What sort of off-road?" XD

I've never ridden in the Cairngorms (more's the pity).

  • Also tyre choice in 26” can be limited

  • You'd be better off with 650b and bigger tyre without mudguards, but better off still not bothering and slightly bigger tyre without mudguards. 26" will drop the BB way too much.

  • Tyre choice for 26" is very limited. (Source: 5 x 26" wheel bikes at home)

Would 650B wheels not be the more common option for this?

  • Of course, there are some people who maintain that 650B is one of the 26" wheel sizes🙂 It's definitely the one which has the widest choice of tyres at the moment, and the one which is the default for putting fatter tyres on a 700C bike without fucking up the geometry.

It looks like the pinch point is going to be at the chainstays. Take careful measurements and see if it's really worth it to change wheels just to squeeze a 42-584 in when there are decent mud options in 35-622

  • Depends on what perimeters for the choice of tyres and the tolerances/clearance for the intended frame.

If we are talking about the Trek FX 3 conversation above.

Then the same perimeter for tyres and frame clearance still applies.

650b/584 vs. 700c/622 isn't that much thou, within limits it should fit.

  • I can't find this type of ring. 110 BCD, 4 bolt but not asymmetric like Shimano.

  • Could they be 104 BCD, rather than 110?

    This style of chainring.

  • I think you're right. In which case the crankset is the MTB version, according to the dimensions on p.10 of the manual http://www.thm-carbon.com/manuals_clavicula.html I thought it was the compact road version. I wonder if it will fit my bike.

  • Go to adhesive for head badges?

The custom one I have is an awkward shape so the double sticky back 3M stuff for car panels is not an option.

Alu badge on a painted frame. Super glue test did terrible things to the paint so that is out.

    JB Weld?

  • Sugru would probably work.

JB weld would be the one shot / never remove option

  • Thanks Ed. Will try that next....

  • 2 part epoxy was what worked for me back when Riv sent out unattached badges with their frames.
