Just stay home, if you can’t trust yourself not to vote for actual fash then maybe it’s too much responsibility?
-

No guess I typed it badly, just a referendum on PR although have heard farage saying we should have more referendums, maybe one on net zero

Than vote reform? You could stick your bollocks in the window and close it with gusto, you could rub dog turds in your eyes, you could spoil your ballot, you could sit in a dark room listening to Westlife, you could eat your fingers, almost all ideas are better ideas.

The tirade of childish and unreasoned replies just confirms my theory that thought has been shelved in favour of popularity in your little dog-whistle echo-chamber.
So who/what is going to cause true debate in Parliament, to stop them filling their own pockets, and make them accountable to the people - by who I mean, young/old, rich/poor, North/South ?

Aww, you flatter us.

Not compulsory but would be fun for you to complete https://www.politicalcompass.org/test so you can see where you lie.
I'd love proper PR, but nowhere near enough to vote Reform (I'd rather cut my own testicles off with a rusty spoon). And voting Reform is not the only route to PR. PR will come eventually to the UK but not within the next few years at least.
So who/what is going to cause true debate in Parliament, to stop them filling their own pockets, and make them accountable to the people - by who I mean, young/old, rich/poor, North/South ?
Not voting for grifting cunts like the Tories or Reform for a start.

Do you believe that Reform are going to do this?

Better than voting for a bunch of racist, misogynistic neo-fascist grifters? How long have you got? It's a long list.

Voting for reform deserves an amount of ridicule, the idea is ridiculous, I put spoil your ballot in there too, bloody snowflakes can't take a joke anymore eh? Unfortunately the system is pretty well rigged against actual progress and if that's your only concern then reform certainly aren't going to help, they'll play on prejudices to garner support for money, they're the awful spawn of racists and fascists that have almost learnt to cover up the worst of those tendancies just enough to look vaguely serious. I'd love actual progress, but for right now, I'll take not having the Tories actively destroying everything then maybe I'll regain enough hope for more.

Did everyone notice Jovan Owusu-Nepaul challenging Farage in Clacton? He's a victim of his own success. Labour HQ were furious that he was getting more retweets than Starmer. He was ordered to stop campaigning in his constituency and go elsewhere to help in a 'winnable' seat. Clacton Labour party have been denied leaflets and canvassing data. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jun/26/labour-not-putting-up-a-fight-against-farage-in-clacton This seems to be a true story and not part of Owen Jones' masterplan to restore Corbyn to the throne.

So who/what is going to cause true debate in Parliament
Populism isn't true debate, it's the opposite. It's the appeal to (and manipulation of) raw emotion and base instinct. It disdains actual debate, saying that there are "typical people" out there whom political debate is ignoring and whom the populist doesn't have to define.
your little dog-whistle echo-chamber
Do you even understand the term dog-whistle? A dog whistle is, for example, Farage saying Sunak "doesn't understand our culture", letting the racists know he's saying Sunak is the wrong colour/religion to be properly British without quite saying it out loud. Dog whistles are what Farage and his ilk use to let some people know he considers them those "typical people". I think the people disagreeing with you here have been fairly explicit about why, not hiding behind code words.
-
• #2320
That would assume that Farage has some level of honesty and doesn't fold like a badly-erected deckchair when he's put in a position where he can't just fall back on rhetoric and finger pointing.

The Conservative party is now blitzing Facebook with hundreds of
adverts telling voters that Labour has committed to rolling out a
"national ULEZ" in their area if they win next week.Just an out and out lie.
Maybe the tories have noticed all the fuckwits voting Reform so have decided to aim for the votes of the credulous fuckwit demographic.

Can I get some backing for my proposal of a violently authoritarian democracy: we run completely free, open and inclusive elections, but if any candidate or party is found to have flat-out lied during the campaign then the king turns up at their party headquarters and starts lopping bits off them with a ceremonial sword.
