Certainly sounds like it might be quite a bad situation in (some) european countries.

I lose most of the racing; I'll be able to get some of the big races but not the smaller ones. Need to work out if I can access Discovery+ without a VPN here.

His last time trial win was in 2018, so I don't think it's any surprise he hasn't been selected. I'm surprised the Guardian lead with it to be honest, I'd read the squad details elsewhere and it didn't even register he wasn't in it.

What's happened to Quin Simmons? He hasn't raced since a DNF at Strade Bianche.

He crashed at Strade Bianche and abandoned after remounting and trying to continue. He was coming back from a concussion at the tail end of last season, so possibly his ongoing absence is related to that? But I've not seen anything from either him or Lidl-Trek that provides any further info.

He seems to be taking it well.

Listening to the Watts Occurring podcast, Geraint seems to be remarkably grounded for an elite athlete, and realistic of his capabilities in the last years of his career.

He said this a few weeks ago on the GTCC podcast, in reference to he didn't want to turn up to make up the numbers.

He wanted to go to be competitive if at all.

Well, The Guardian isn't fully committed to Cycling coverage, but even their Sports Desk must have heard of Geraint Thomas.
He has found a number of ways to lose time trials.

Kuss hasn't recovered from Covid apparently, but I've seen no mention of him having it in the past month.
