For the zero people invested in this story, I created a light mount with a little bracket from a rack strut mounted to the accessory rails on this Pro Stealth Superlight saddle.
It enables me to mount the saddle roll without using a band-on mount. I don't love that the bracket is upside down, but the Moon light brackets hold solidly. I may buy a proper alloy GoPro adaptor and matching light bracket if this works well long-term.

For the zero people invested in this story
To be fair i'm invested in this story, but my setup is so basic and shameful that i'd add nothing to the conversation, unfortuantely...
A friend of mine has this tho

That's really good.
I bought one of these recently https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193695067301 so am currently trying to work out how to extend it so I can run a saddle bag too.

There is always the money gun option, and get something custom. Cat3bits does this SWAT that is presumably for this use case and takes custom orders..

Or take the more extreme option of buying a new light and saddle to work around this mount 🤡

Very neat. I am perhaps not invested but interested and impressed

Something like this would do the trick? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324195985188

It crossed my mind, but I have settled on pairing this: https://framesandgear.com/en-gb/products/pro-stealth-saddle-gopro-mount
With this: https://winstanleysbikes.co.uk/moon-gopro-rear-mount-adapter
That'll be a bit neater and enable me to adjust the angle of the light.
I'd like to see real-world examples of road bikes loaded with neat saddle rolls (or saddlebags) paired with unobtrusively mounted lights. There's something so troubling about band-on lights on otherwise clean builds.
Context: I have a Moon Nebula light, which I love. I also have a Big X Top saddle roll (which I've had since 2014!). I'm trying to work out how I can make the two play nicely or, heaven forbid, buy a new saddle roll.
They'll be fitted to a Giant TCR. I generally use Pro Stealth saddles, which have two-bolt mounts on the underside of the shell. Wondering whether I could mount a GoPro-style mount that would squeeze through the gap between the roll and shell, mounting the light a bit further back?
Any inspiration or examples warmly received.
